  • Fenrir..... How?

Everyone knows that the summon "Fenrir" is available... but i have a few questions about how to obtain it.

I heard that you must have all the 'whispers' from all the avatars, and the battle is infuriating.

So, has anyone aquired it? If so, all I need to know is.

1.) What is the process needed to obtain Fenrir.

2.) How is the battle with it?

    3.) Is it worthit?

Thank you for whoever can answer this. ^^

You won't be getting Fenrir until level 75.

None of my jobs are anywhere near the level needed to fight Fenrir, but I've read a lot about him from these and other FFXI websites and boards, so I can at least relay you the info.

1.) What is the process needed to obtain Fenrir.
First, you need to have level 7 fame in each city. This is because before you can fight Fenrir, you need the "Whisper" items from all of the other avatars first. You get these from fighting the level 65 full-party versions, not the new level 20 solo battles. You cannot get whispers from the solo battles. Whenever you beat one of the full-party avatars, you get a whisper that you can then turn in to the quest NPC for a reward which is either a pact with the avatar, a large gil reward, or some uber cool items. But if you want, you do have the choice to not go back to the quest NPC and simply keep the whisper. And that's what you'll have to do to get Fenrir. Once you have all of the whispers from the others, you can start a quest called "The Moonlit Path" that you get from Leepe-Hoppe in Windurst Waters. Bring him the whispers and he'll give you a key item called a Moon Bauble. With this, you can enter Full Moon Fountain and fight with Fenrir Prime.

Also, I've heard that whether you win or not, the Moon Bauble is yours forever so that you can try again as many times as you want. So, you won't have to keep fighting the other avatars over and over for their whispers again.

2.) How is the battle with it?
Everyone in the party must be at level 75 if you have any hope of survival, and even then the fight can be brutal. Of heard of mages that were able to enter the fight much earlier, but even then the recommended level for them is around 70. There are 2 popular configurations for a Fenrir party. One involves a couple of level 75 melee characters to trade hate that are almost always either Ninja or Paladin due to a Ninja's blink tank ability and the Paladin's great ability to hold hate. The other slots are usually filled by Black Mages since the avatars are elementals, they're good for nuking the beast to death. And of course, you need a White Mage there to heal. Ideally, your White Mage should be at least level 70 so that he or she will have Raise III.

The other way to go is to have a party of almost entirely Summoners at 70+ and a White Mage. The Summoners usually summon Leviathan and use his Blood Pact, Spinning Dive to do massive damage to Fenrir while the White Mage is there in case things go bad, naturally.

Any kind of party can go in, of course, but those are the kinds of parties I hear are usually much more successful.

      3.) Is it worthit?
If you like Summoner and want to play the job to the fullest, then Hell, yes! Not only is Fenrir the sexiest avatar in the game, he's also the strongest and later on learns some very helpful blood pacts such as Ecliptic Howl which raises the accuracy and evasion for your entire party. He's also got some real good melee pacts and his Astral Flow ability is definitely the coolest.

            Good Luck!!!

            Question!

So, what you're saying is, you can't have obtained any of the avatars to obtain Fenrir? you need to hand in the whispers to give to the quest NPC correct?

Can you get the whispers multiple times?

I'm confused. I'm not even close to the summoner job yet ^^.
            So, tolerate it, hehe....

I moved your thread here so you can find wealth of info on SMN job. I suggest also reading Sheils'a excellent FAQ.

To answer you question, you can get whispers multiple times.

No, not quite. Of course you can get Fenrir if you have the other avatars. In fact, I recommend you do get them first just to get it out of the way. With the other avatar battles, when you beat the avatar, he gives you a little of his power, that's his "whisper." When you go back to the NPC that gave you the avatar quest, you get to choose a reward. Either gil, a rare item, or nothing. Choosing nothing is actually what gives you a pact with the avatar, basically the ability to summon that avatar. But once you turn in the whisper, it's gone and you'll have to fight the avatar again to get another one. To keep the whisper from an avatar, simply hold onto it and don't go back to the NPC. Once you have a whisper from each avatar, you can get the Moon Bauble that lets you into Fenrir's Full Moon Fountain.

Also, I should mention that you do not have to be a Summoner to gain the ability to summon any of these avatars. All you need to do is unlock the job. That's why it's possible to see level 1 summoners with all of the avatars, even Fenrir. Of course, if you wanted to try the new solo battles, then you do have to level your summoner to 20.

I have one question I can't seem to find anywhere, is the "Moon bauble" like a fork where each person needs to have one to enter the fight, or does only one person need to have it for a party to enter this?

Yes the bauble is similar to a fork, each person needs one to enter the battle.
