42...and suddenly unable to find parties?

G'day~

I recently (going on perhaps 8 weeks ago now) hit 41 with my summoner, after levelling it to catch up with my main (60 WHM). I enjoyed my time as a summoner so much so that I decided I might 'main' it, having become frustrated with my WHM and static-party. I had hoped to fly through the 40's as I did with both WHM and BRD but have found that...I simply cannot find pick-up parties any longer o.O.

Has anyone else experiened this? I've seen other summoners make it through rather easily, but I am having an unbelievably hard time of it. >.<

all my non BLM/BRD/WHM/RDM friends post-41 have had trouble finding PTs, all the way to 50.

i suggest seeking while watching a movie, or starting your own PT

(i prefer to just watch movies/browse a forum) while seeking, but.. its just tough LV's

<laugh> Well, I managed to reach 43...so at this rate, I should hit 50 by Christmas! >.< It's frustrating when I enjoy Summoner so much more than my WHM or BRD ; a lack of parties (even poor ones) can definately take the enjoyment out.

I enjoyed my thf more than any other job but I couldn't get parties, it's very frustrating. And static parties might not work for people who have RL obligations.

Get used to it. It only gets worse, much worse.

You can't outdamage a BLM, you can't outheal an RDM or WHM, and you can't out-support a bard.

Honestly, I think it was the fact that I had Fenrir that got me up to 60. His boosts are very very useful, and also appealing lol. 60+ i had some trouble finding parties so I always ended up making my own, then I formed a set pt with RNG RNG PLD SMN BRD BLM, and i'm 10k till 68 :D. Also another smidgeon of info you might find usefull when forming parties, is that a SMN works beautifully with a NIN tank as opposed to PLD. Stoneskin make it easy for NIN to recast, Fenrir acc+eva buff etcetc, and You won't be healing much so you'll have time to do these and others buffs ^-^

Something to look out for though, make sure your ninja can hold hate, thf or no thf. I had a number of ninja tank parties where the ninja is just TERRIBLE at holding hate. he gets hit, i cure, i get hate, blm cures me, gets hate, rdm casts paralyze, gets hate, EVERYONE was getting damaged that night, and I spent more time doing Spring Water than anything else in that party. The only thing the thf did (we added a thf about an hour in, since someone had to go) was extend the amount of cures I could do (two or three cures) before it started running after me. It was a nightmare of 3 hours.

After a number of those parties, I openly welcome a PLD at any circumstance. Good ninja tanks are few and far-between in my experience.

In any case, party invites really do curve drastically after SMN AF1. Since that level, i'd say roughly 90% of all my parties have been started by me personally. I assume it will stay this way until perhaps i can get the 34k exp i need to get 65 and get Eclipse Bite.

Oceanfish is correct to say that SMN class gets worse until level 70. Many times, I have found myself missing Cure IV and V, settling with a DS Cure III and then realizing I can't do it for another 10 minutes. My SMN and my WHM are even level now, and it kills me that I sometimes feel the desire to just change to WHM and level that for sake of PT dynamics (higher cures, Viruna and Stona, protectra, shellra, regen II, better bar-element casts, haste without having to wait a minute to cast, and for heaven's sake, for the blm, brd, smn backline, a chance to cast slow and paralyze when the blm is idiotic).


Hopefully this will turn for the better post level 65.
