i was wondering, i know you don't have to be a summoner to aqcuire the elementals, but do you have to be a summoner when you fight the avatars to be able to get them as a summon? or can you just have the summoner as a job choice available, then beat the avatar and you'll get the summon?

You need to have the summoner job unlocked to choose the pact with the avatar as a prize, but you can battle with the avatars on any job, it doesn't matter.
