  • Not clear on obtianing summons please help

I just recently got my summoner job, but there was something I'm not clear on.

when obtianing new summons, I.E. Ifrit, Shiva, etc....
Do I have to BE a summoner as my main job when I beat... say.. Shiva?

Or can I be ANY of my main jobs, so long that I've already finished the summoner quest and can be a summoner, which I am. Only lvl 4 smn

I.E. Me using a lvl 40rdm or something or another to fight Shiva or something.

    Let me know, thanks.

First, you have to have lots of fame in the city for the summon you want (lets say you want shiva first, which is San d oria). When you have enough, you accept that quest from a taru and an elvaan npc team (theres on in north san near west ron gate.) you then get a pt together and go fight it. a 60-65 pt of 6 ppl can take it, or if youre impatient and about lv45, you can pay the ppl that camp out at the cloisters to help you. you fight the summon; you dont have to live through the fight, but the pt has to beat it. You then go back to the -taru and other race team-, and choose a prize.

-I think thats how it goes.

I see, is that how it goes for pretty much the rest of the summons? It's a quest to get the summons more so than just going out, and beating it.

60-65, wow that's a lot higher than I thought I had to be, I had no idea they were so tough.

So I assume what you are saying is that I DON"T have to have my smn as my main job while defeating the summon right. I just need to finish the quest no matter what main job I have at that time, so long as I've finished the inital summon quest...

      do I have that right?

yes that is right. as long as you have the summoner job open, you can fight them. But you can do it with any main/sub job combination.

Excellent, thankyou guys for helping me clear things up.

          I appreciate it.

I guess I'll go and get my fame up, if it isn't already high enough now.

and.. as you guys said, camp, and see if anybody will help me

            Not quite.

You don't have to have the summoner job unlocked in order to get the quest and fight the avatars. All that's required is the proper fame level. However, if you don't have the summoner job unlocked, you can't pick the Avatar Pact as your reward, and have to settle for either one of the items (which are all one time rewards) or the 10K gil.

There's also a rumor that you can't get the pact unless summoner is either your main or sub job when you talk to the quest NPC for your reward after the fight. It makes sense (similar to the way that you can't use spell scrolls unless the proper level mage is one of your active jobs), but I don't know for certain if its accurate.
