  • Developer Responses?

In the other mmporgs that I have played, when a community of classes/jobs felt they sucked badly enough, you would eventually get a message from the developers talking about the issue.

Has there ever been any communication from the developers stating that they understand summoners are this unhappy?

I would play a smn full time if the pets were worth a damn. I guess im not sure where to go online to see official statements from ffxi developers.

I saw a article with a few things SE was going to change. Summons was one of them. It basicly said when you had a summon out, the people in your PT would get a special boost in a stat. Like when Carbuncle was out, everyone would have auto-regen. SE also said that they were probably going to make it so you had to keep a summon out for a set amount of time before you could recall it (unless you run out of MP), because people are just summoning the summons, doing a skill to help the PT, then recalling them. I don't know if they are still going to do that though...

did they say anything about acquiring summons? thats what im primarily concerned about...

my summoner is only lvl 7. but im still concerned once i reach, say oh 15, and my summoner still only has carbuncle, and my lvl 30 blm still isnt high enough to cut it...

this topic makes me really angry, summoners shouldnt actually start becoming their job 15 lvls before the max...UGH!!

thats not fair though...all the other advanced jobs start once you get a basic job to 30, but for the summoners, you pretty much ahve to wait till lvl 60? how is that fair, or balanced?

It's fair and balanced in the context of when the SMN job was introduced, that is, almost a year (I think) after FFXI was released. It's truly an advanced job, for players late in their FFXI careers. Something to look forward to, a fun high-level diversion perhaps.

But I agree with you, it's not fair to NA players who want to play it, in the sense that most NA players see SMN as just another one of the advanced jobs, and the only advanced mage job. Also, making the quest to obtain the job level 30 but the fights to get the avatars level 60 just doesn't make sense from our perspective.

I wish it was different, because I know there are a lot of frustrated would-be summoners, but I seriously doubt the requirements will change much. SE may fix the glitches of the job, but I'm not holding my breath for massive changes to how it's acquired. The question is, can they change the job so that it's truly worth playing without all the avatars, and still make it seem like you are a full-fledged summoner?
