Hey hey hey! I have seen plenty of high level elvaan summoners on Caitsith! Not to mention this type of disscusion has been had many times! Race really does not play too much of a role in this game. Yeah as an elvaan you'll have less MP then some other races but you can find ways to balance it out. Equipment plays a much bigger role than race and if you want to be an elvaan summoner then go ahead, I know when I'm making parties I look for jobs; not race.

If you look mostly at the sustained time an avatar could be kept out, tarus have an edge if you always wait to get full mp after each fight.

When parties constantly chain monsters, mp regen over time matters more than max mana pool - you dont get a chance to get full mp all the time.
An elvaan summoner that can afford the best mp regen drink to fight the mp slip would have an edge over a taru that doesnt have drinks.

On asura there are tons of AF armored elvaan/hume summoners, only seen 1 taru.

3 Mithra are better than 1...

                hmm one question...
i've seen it done a few times subbing sumoner just for the healing aspects and not for the summoning... more mp/stronger skills/ etc

Would a Elvaan WHM/SUM do well or would ppl complain about the vagrant misuse of the SUM job?

hmm. well the only thing that could happen is A. you run into people like me who ask you to make some use out of the SMN sub. or B. you relize that besides a MP boost and MP regen at WHM L50(L25sub) that you don't get much from a SMN sub.

for a WHM i don't see how it would be too bad. i just think a BLM would be more helpful for subbing because

Drain helps keep ur HP up
Warp helps u with all the higher level teleport spells
the Debuffs work well with para/dia etc.

                  but whatever u like works.

Yes i was saying you can settle for elvaan without much trouble, elvaan have the best MND stat when being a SMN which comes in handy subbing whm as well.

I think what most people are trying to get here is that in the long run race matters....but..not as much as you would think. Every race has something they excel at more then the others. TaruTaru make the best casters. Galka make the best tanks. Mithra have great dex and agi so they make good thieves, etc.

Every race has their specific niche in the job system but that doesn't mean they will have no chance at surviving as something else. It is true a Galka caster isn't really a smart idea but there are some of them walking around.

What it really comes down to is level 75. At level 75 a level 75 Taru SMN will have LOADS of more Mp then a lv 75 Galka SMN. No contest. Without equipment the Galka wouldn't be able to survive.

However, if the Galka invests lots of money and goes for Astral Rings, Refresh items, AF armor and all MP boosting equipment then they would have a nice amount of MP to survive.

Sure they might not be as good as a Taru but thats because Taru are MADE to be casters. If you don't like Taru's that doesn't mean your SoL.

Elvaan don't make the best of Summoners. Can they be good summoners? Of course they can. Will they ever have as much/more MP as a taru? Probably not.

The only problem I see with being an Elvaan summoner is you will need to invest a little bit more money on MP+ gear and the best MP regen you can get

                          *shrug*

Yes it's true.. Elvaans don't make the best summoners, but they are very well playable. A guy in my LS is a lv24 summoner now and having a lot of fun with his job. I might try to sub it for MP bonus, but I think I'll stick to blm - once I get warp, I don't think I'll ever want to miss it again.

I have a friend who is a Elvaan SMN, he can summon Carbuncle 4 times before having to rest and he is only lvl 10, now that might not seem much but seeing as he is battling with it so it stays out, heals with it, and does the norm SMN job, it is quite a bit for a SMN.

Play the Race/Job you like, just becuase the race isnt best doesnt mean you cant do it, i mean look at all the Taru melee running around
