I went to Buburimu today with three guys from my linkshell.. two of them had their lv15 thief with treasure hunter subbed. It took us about 1 1/2 hours to find my ruby.

But yes, I got lucky with poison leeches. ^^v Just beware of bogies..

it's been confirmed that ALL leeches drop them, however some have better chances than others. from what i heard bubu and shakrami have best chances, i spent about 3 hours in bubu and got 4 rubies for friends. of course fact that we had 3 thieves in the pt might've played a role in that

Yesterday a friend and I (me 28 DRK, him 36 WHM) went to Burubimo penninsula to fight poison leaches as well.

We got 2 ruby's RIGHT AFTER ANOTHER! We were there no longer than 10 minutes killing them and then we took off....Great luck.

don't even bother trying to get one without atleast 1 thief, me and a 31 drk spent atleast 3 hours, then we got 3 thfs with only TH1 and found 4 in about an hour and a half

Well, let me tell you I am very frustrated in my attempt to find a Carbie Ruby.
Started killing leeches in Qufim when I was around level 26 (mostly getting killed in the process, lol )
As I didn't get one, I moved to Windy and from there to Burumbi.
Killed about 20 leeches, and my friend the blm that was helping me got a Ruby.

                I did not.
Last night, we killed leeches ALL night and no Ruby....
I have givven up on it for now.
Will dedicate myself to gathering money to buy spells, now that I'm level 30, and maybe in the weekend I'll try again....

First i was killing them in valkrum for afew hours, didnt get one. I then remembered reading this thread and thought i might have better chances in Buburimu Peninsula, 6+ hours later of killing leechs still no rubie. I have treasure hunter but it doesnt seem to be helping, maybe theif has to be your main for it to work very good.:dead:

People, let me tell you what it took to get me a ruby:
                    Me, a level 30 whm
                    A lvl 37 blm
                    A lvl 54 Samurai
                    A lvl 59 thief
                    A lvl 60 rdm

After two hours or more of killing leeches in the maze on Tharongy (forgotten the name, sorry! ), we finnally got a ruby.... bwahaha! I felt great! :D

And I've already unloked Carbuncle.... he is the cutest!!! I love him!!

Do not bother trying to get a ruby without a theif.

                      Here's my horror story:

I tried to go to qufim to kill leeches, but they still conned tough so i tried for a couple of hours to get someone to help. no dice. So I moved to mhaura and just soloed poison leeches. 5 days and more than 5000exp later I hit lv31. still no ruby. So I go back to qufim and still can't get anyone to help a lv31blm. I switch to whm and instantly have a party that'll help me kill leeches. one person disco's at beginning of battle and 3 of us die, including me. Which of course kills the group. Then someone has the nerve to complain to me about I should go to buribumu and i'm stupid for not doing the quest at lv30...

In short, whereever you go, get a theif to help. Don't try to go the "If i'm patient i'll get one" route, as I've wasted more than enough time and had more than enough stupid people tell me opinion on how to get the ruby that just isn't fact.

I've read somewhere all leeches drop the ruby but the drop rate is determind by the leeches level relation to yours. 0_o

At any rate hitting Buburimu with a few thieves sounds like the best bet. Unless you are levelling in Qufim and have a few BLM's you can kill acros and get XP at the same time. DO NOT attempt to kill Acrophies without a BLM. TT

I had fun with my quest. I just twhapped leeches in Buru Pen. for a couple hours. Found 2 rubys in about 2 hours or so. I was a lvl 37/18 Theif/Warrior and had a 33/16 white mage, and a lvl 30/15 warrior/monk.

White mage would slap a regen on me, and I'd take on three leeches at a time, while she babysat the warrior. I'd zoom by, get regen again, go off. Unfortunately, the warrior had to leave, so he didn't get his. Too bad for him though.

Was solo'n in Bu Penninsula today w/ my rdm/whm, after about 30 leeches or so it dropped. And I was only lvl 23, so its possible to get the ruby under lvl 30.

                                my story,
today i wasnt doing much, just questing in windy for fame then i decide to head to buburimu, as 40pld/15thf (i love that treasure hunter ) i get to the beach and the 2nd poison leech i kill drops the ruby. now though, i've spent the last 6 hours in valkurm waiting for some damn heat  i got the other 4 in like 10 minutes and i was waiting to do ice last. is there any type of formula to decide when a the "heat" will be in valkurm, because while i was out the person that tells the weather said it was going to be "sunny" for three days straight, but there was no "heat" for my ruby. can anyone help me out?
