Redmage/Summoner?

I've been reading a lot of Redmages and Summoners, and came across someone saying that a Redmage/Summoner would be a good combo. But that would only make your summons 1/2 as strong as a Summoner redmage. My question is that when you switch your main job to Summoner, it goes to lvl 1? Or does it keep the lvl it was when it was your sub job? Same thing, vicversa, If i were to switch my mainjob into a sub job, would i keep all of my spells? And abilities? Or they would be avalible when i reach the lvl.
Plus, it's been said that the summons are weak. Does that mean you shouldn't send them off attacking? If so, wouldn't sticking to Redmage/Summoner would be off better?

Summoner as sub isnt the best idea. Id go Summoner for main if i wanted do anything with Summoner. As for the lvl thing, your lvls will stay the same. You dont have to relvl or anything. Your new Main will have same lvl as it did as sub, and the new sub will have half that of the main. As you lvl, your sub lvl will rise until it reaches the lvl where you left it at. Then you have to go and lvl it up. Spells are remember forever no matter if you change to a new job. Youll be able to use them and the abilities once you meet the lvl requirements for them again. Summons are weak in the beginning but as you lvl they get stronger. You can let them attack by theirselves but you must make sure they can handle it.
