  • Summoners-So good or no good?

I've been reading some of the posts and I have a couple of questions.

    1. People have been saying that summoners aren't balanced and they completely suck. Is this true?

    2. What is a Heal Tank. It doesn't sound like something I would wanna be. If I'm not using my summons to kill stuff then it doesn't sound worth it.

    3. Ok, so if you start in your proper town you automatically get the stat ring thing. If I was, say, a hume starting in Windhurst, would I be able to later buy the Windhurst ring. Also, I've heard mages get better items at Windhurst. Could I a hume mage start out in Bastok and then get a friend to just take him to Windhurst, so that he would be able to get these items.

    4. I know I'm getting reeeeally off topic, but if you are in a party with people from the other countries, how is the cp distrubuted?

I'm not in beta nor have I imported so I can really only answer Question #1 right now because I have done a LOT of summoner research and looked into everything I could about them.

Summoners at their current form are NOT as powerful as you would think, but they are *VERY FAR* from useless. As a Summoner your most viable combination would be a Summoner/White - although a Red would work almost as well. Black isn't that good of a choice but if it tickles your fancy then be my guest .

As a summoner you only begin with Carbuncle. The most logical way to become a good summoner is to level up your Sub job as a Main to level 60ish so you can take on the Summon battles. Once you defeat a good number of the summons- it is safe for you to make Summoner your main(Now that you have some of the more powerful summons)

At lower levels Summons are pretty nice to have around. They're pretty powerful but not overpowering. Around the 20's their power starts "decreasing." It doesn't actually decreas but as opposed to other classes their damage seems minimal. From around 20's-40ish you are more of a supporter. You use a skill a skill or two of a summon; and possibly a damage skill. The skills from the Summons are very handy. You get things such as Blink, Hastega, Group Heals/Cures, Poisons, Damage shields, etc. They are VERY nice to have around even if the summons themselves aren't doing much damage.

After the 50's the summons start getting more powerful but they're still mostly used for support. Their power keeps increasing and by the time you max 70 your "Overdrive" type ability(2 hour ability) that can do massive damage. The abilities from the summons continue to be useful, probably even more useful because the enemies are more difficult.

Even though Summoners can be extremely powerful - their power comes at a great cost so if your not determined, willing to invest lots of time, and learn your role in the party then it may not be worth it to become a summoner. They are not as powerful as one as one would think and if someone goes in with the wrong mindset they MAY be dissapointed.

As it stands right now Summoners still need some improving. For most of their career they are Back up healers or Supporters, which they shouldn't.

As for your other questions, personally I can't answer them yet but I'm sure someone else can . Have a nice night.

Hmmm, now that I've seen that summoners won't being doing much damage until really, really, really high levels, I'm thinking about being a blm (since summoning stuff is cool, but really the most important thing for me is being a mage that does damage; i.e in eq i was a magician). Is it a good idea to stay with a non-advanced job as your main job even after lvl. 30?

        1. Scryab said #1 perfectly.

        2. Heal Tank - Take apart the word, Heal - You heal; Tank - The summon is the tank, so your a healer and your summon tanks (tanks - takes the damage/hits). Really you summon, use an ability, call it back, act as healer.

        3. I think you can buy the ring somewhere... but not sure... Yes, there are better mage only items in Windurst. Yes again, you could just have a friend help you get over to Windurst to just buy the items.

        4. I'm pretty sure its just divided in x amount of people in your PT... no matter what nation your in a PT with.

And what you just posted... Advance Jobs just mean you have to be lvl 30 in one other job, it doesn't always mean that an Advance Job is better than the Starting Jobs.

        Hope I helped.

OK, so I could be a human, start out in Bastok to get the ring, and then just get a friend to take me to Windhurst and the only disadvantages I might have would be my stats?

Umm you mean Hume in comparison with a Tarutaru? If so then, yes your stats will just be different... and looks.

You can get a bastok/windurst/sandy ring from Conquest, its either a 4k or 8k item. You have to allegiance with the country whose ring you want.

Switching alliegances can be expensive, too.
