  • Re: 3/10 patch changes to scholar

On the other hand, SCH has -ga IVs now... has anyone tested them? Sure, they'd have the (base) casting cost and time of AM2s, but they might still be useful for *something*...
    ???

Cure IV returns ~420HP using a Light/Apollo Staff for 88MP. With Light Arts up, this is reduced to 80MP. If you have a spare Strategem to burn you can Penury against it to drop it to 44MP.

Light Arts only: 5.25HP per MP spent
With Penury: 9.55HP per MP spent

Drain will land for maybe 100-150HP, maybe a shade more, but the average is probably on the low end of that scale due to the occasional resist. Drain costs 21MP, so also around ~5HP per MP.
Regen II returns ~240HP for 36MP (but is slow), but has a nice return on investment of 6.67HP per MP spent.

Drain assuming 100HP average and Dark Arts active (19MP): 5.26HP per MP
Regen II assuming Light Arts active (33MP): 7.27HP per MP.

Note that burning a Strategem charge for either of these spells is somewhat less effective than Cure IV, since they're much less expensive.

I like Cure IV as an opener right after Convert. It gives you a healthy shot of HP, and it comes at a time when you basically have extra MP just "lying around" because you'll lose it the moment you swap back into "regular" gears.

There's nothing wrong with using Drain and Regen II to buff your HP up afterwards, however.

Also, don't most of the mobs that we merit on these days have MP? The mamool ja have it, I think the colibri have it, although they would reflect Aspir so that's no good. Still, I'm thinking that /Sch gives a pretty good Aspir from what I hear, so could you take that into account for part of your mp recovery?
Some Mamools have MP (the spellcasters - Mimic, Blusteror, Philosopher).
Colibri have MP (and again you probably won't get it reflected on you if you cast it late in a fight - it'll just bounce toward a Warrior or someone else who doesn't have MP.

So yes, you can account for all of these when figuring the effectiveness of RDM/SCH.

I said the system MAY consider Sublimation Refresh (this suggests a bug). I NEVER said Sublimation is Refresh. You really have a bad habit of putting words in people's mouths lately.
Did you? I misremembered, then. Not intentional; sorry about that.

What is the difference between "Sublimation is Refresh" and "Sublimation is considered Refresh", in your view?

So, 50 Ticks for Refresh is 150 MP; cost is 40 MP, so net is 110 MP. Sublimation for 50 ticks is 100 MP, but Regen cost is 14 MP with Light Arts, so net is actually 86 MP. That's about 22% difference.

The best use of Sublimation for a RDM is in fights facing Sleepga--saves a poison potion or two. A close second is when Stoneskin's up, need to rest, and not enough MP to cast Refresh on self. I'd normally fix that with a Hi-Ether in critical situations, but Sublimation can work, too.

Calculated that wrong and my comparisson was biased too. So yea, 20 skill difference by default.

I didn't want to include gear (why I added SCH's AF in I have no idea - not thinking straight) b/c end-game sets are different and we don't know what SCH's final gear choices would be.

          My apologies.

            What tier 4 'gas?

Manifestation is for Black Dark and Enfeebling Magic only, not elemental.

Oops. I guess that proves I haven't gotten to 40 yet.

...But they hardly even get any enfeebling spells. Is it really intended to be used just for Aspirga? (Which does seem like a cool idea, if there's no hidden catch...)
Defeated: Maat, Divine Might, Fenrir, Kirin, Cactrot Rapido, Xolotl, Diabolos Prime, Kurrea, 9/10 Dynamis Bosses (missing Tav), Promathia, Proto-Ultima, Proto-Omega, 4 Jailers, Apocalypse Nigh, 6/6 Nyzul Bosses

Manifestation is very useful for Aspir, Gravity, Sleep 2, Sleep, and Bind. It assists with crowd control basically.

No hidden catch, just doubles the MP cost and cast/recast like it says. Strips shadows like a normal -aga. I haven't tested the radius of it or Accession's effect. But Accession seems similar to normal Protectra so I'd hazard a guess that Manifestation is similar to BLM -aga.

Not sure if anyone noticed this, but the talk of RDM's duties being lightened kinda dulled by the fact that Sublimation is only offered to those that /SCH at 70+. So that leaves about . . . .lvls 40-70 for RDMs/BRDs/CORs to keep being the standard form of MP regeneration.

This is 13 pages long and I don't have the time for pages 4-12 so I'll just toss this out:

Has anyone already mentioned the fact that Accession (I think? AoE White Magic) doesn't stack with spells accessed via addendum? I.e. you cannot do Accession+Blindna if you're getting Blindna via Addendum. If you're /whm, however, it works fine. Or so my friend is telling me (I'm hoping he tested it himself since he's SCH 67...)

I've used Accession with Erase from Addendum:White , its worked just fine and I've been doing it with subs that don't naturally get Erase. Additionally, I'm not at the sub level where I can get Erase from /WHM.

I think his wording was "unless you would get it from sub."

I could be wrong, and he could be wrong. /shrug. More testing, plz.

Stunga should be interesting to see as well (to set up a mob for an upcoming Sleepga II?)

I don't have much time today, but I ran out into Gustaberg [S] as SCH/DRG to check some stuff.

I can confirm that Manifestation works with Sleep and Dispel when obtained through Addendum: Black. Oddly enough it works with Klimaform too. I have read that it does not work with Sleep II, but I can't test that yet.

Accession works with Stona, Silena, and Erase when obtained through Addendum: White. It doubles the cost of all the other -Na spells and consumes the Stratagem when used, but I was only able to pin down one person to test them on.

For what it's worth, I was wearing AF pants, hands, and feet at the time.

I dont know about any of you but I have seemed to get less invites after the update than I did before it. I have no idea what on earth the problem is but I am guessing lol that most of the ppl building the pt's are mages @ 75 and hating

Fact: 95% of all players don't read the update, they just download it.

                                Reading is for chumps, obviously.
