How about I answer hypotheticly, as in what I would do if I was still playing?

Yeah, I would try it. It seems interesting.

I'll do it just because I hate choosing between either Black Magic or White Magic.

      I CAN HAVE BOTH.

OMG imagine if Scholar is like Arithmetician.. You can use spells you know from other jobs.

Technically, RDMs won't be out of a job since you'll need RDM leveled to use Refresh anyway..

OMG, I might actually level BLM and WHM then >.<

      Ok, let me stop hoping.

Well, I already have that with RDM, but it'll be interesting to see how they do it differently for SCH.

I really, really doubt they'll do that. Imagine anyone with Maat's Cap playing that kind of SCH... (it's worse if you include blue magic too. Or ninjutsu.)

I think anything castable by a SCH will be learnable by a SCH.

Of course, just like for existing mages with overlapping spell lists, you won't need a scroll to re-learn spells you know from another job. But that's not the same thing as FFT calculator at all if you still have to satisfy the SCH level requirement for the spell in order to cast it.

I don't think they'll allow SCH to cast Refresh. Instead, I think SCH will be a better healer and a better nuker than RDM (in the appropriate respective grimoire modes), but only as long as they have MP, while RDM will remain the Energizer Bunny that also gives more MP to others. That would be the best chance to make SCH a viable job that also doesn't make WHM, BLM and/or RDM completely obsolete.

          Well a Taru can dream..

I just think it'd be interesting because, as I stated, you'd need the respective spells and their original job levels in the first place.. So no "mage" will be out of a job, because they aren't diluting the market..

Knowing SE though, that terribly unbalanced notion won't work.

Well look at my sig and you will see I'm levelin all new jobs at least to 40.

But...I don't know if it will be on Day 1.

I like to wait until the mad rush of people playing the same job gets through. This way less demand for stuff so prices drop, and also I won't have to worry about seeing 10 Scholars and 15 Dancers in seek.

I'll unlock it but probably hold off trying to level it until I figure it out more.

I always unlock all jobs. I'll probably be taking Scholar to at least 37 to sub on my other mage jobs.

I won't be doing it first day though, it will take a while for my WotG to arrive since I need to import.

Interesting... Scholar get Regen II, Drain, and Aspir. They also get the nukes faster than RDM and a bit slower than BLM. The Cures, however, they get at the same level as PLD, as well as the Protect/Shell series (aside from the Tier IV ones, they get those a bit earlier, as PLD doesn't get Shell IV at all). I'm wondering what rating their MP is... if its pretty decent, I'm slightly concerned that they might get pigeonholed into the healer role, what with having Regen II and all. But, with all the Black magic they get, these fears might be baseless. It all depends on what skill ratings they have for Elemental and Dark Magic.

Scholar will probably be my new main job. It seems to have the same problem as pre-Refresh RDM though.

They look to be a Jack-Of-All-Mage. Kinda. I see them as being Indirect buffers via their weather spells. I'm still trying to wrap my head around how their job abilities work in conjunction with their TierII job abilities and how those affect spells...

Looks interesting, to say the least. I'm not too fond of WHM and BLM, so this might be a welcome change. I like the idea of being able to switch between the both, and only have less than average proficiency, but being able to boost my own abilities to make up for the shortcomings.

It seems that it's really tailor-made for people who already had the RDM mind-set, but just wanted a different flavor.

Your blms fail. I hope your ls enjoys having monsters wake up every 30 seconds because sleepga 1 blows goats no matter how much skill you have...

Although it doesn't look like scholar will be helping with this after all - no native sleep spells, which means they'll have to get one through a subjob, which means it will only be sleep 1. *Plus* they only get one stratagem use every 4 minutes, which isn't going to be good for keeping a big pull slept.
