    Re: Where are the SAMs?

Archery's really cheap early on, and like I said you'll be hitting very hard with a PBow +1 and Irons (make sure you get them from NPC as they are far, far cheaper than on AH). Depending on how the update goes, keeping both GKT and Archery capped shouldn't be too hard.

Idk about you but I loved being a SAM/RNG and just mopping the floor with mobs.

Looks like I have another advanced job to quest... not that I wouldn't have anyway, just may move it up in the priorities a bit.

Get a polearm and keep your skill capped. Polearm is great against piercing weak enemies (Bees, Birds, Colibri, Bats, Mandragora, etc.) and fun for farming. Penta Thrust from Lv51-59 will serve you better than Tachi: Jinpu. The YGK (Yukikaze, Gekko, Kasha) weaponskills are comparable after they boosted them to give a cRatio bonus: Yuki/Gekko/Kasha Attack bonus Testing - Page 4 - Order of the Blue Gartr

A well-geared Polearm SAM is godly at Nyzul Birds.

Hey guys, I'm approaching 60, and I had a question about Y/G/K mods. Its 75% STR, right, but does that mean stacking str is better than raw Att? Say, O Kotes vs. some gloves with 4 STR, which would end up doing more dmg for the WS?

I've started skilling up Polearm since the update. Trying to do Archery too, its just taking a long time.

              Re: Where are the SAMs?

I cannot say with certainty at Lv60 with Yukikaze, but once you have Gekko, you'll be using all STR since your cRatio will probably be capped. I'm not sure I'd use Yukikaze over Penta Thrust on anything weak to piercing as long as my hit rate with meat was over 85%. Also Penta Thrust will benefit more from ACC than ATK or STR. I try to put on DEX where I cannot put on ACC.

So at 65 start massing str then? Penta gets 20% from str and dex (unless thats old?) so I can still just use dex and acc to make sure I'm hitting. I just need to get to Penta. I was syncing down, so i've been trying to back cap all my skills. Its taking some time. Wish they hadn't fixed that whole "beat on a wall and skill up while afk' thing. /sigh

                  Re: Where are the SAMs?

Yes, once you have Gekko you'll want a full STR set for WS. Forget ATK and ACC. Hachiman Domaru is even preferable to Haubergeon at Lv70 if you want to be completely optimized. Personally I prefer gearing for Penta Thrust since I don't have to swap gear for WS. Also with Level Sync, I'd probably stick to Lesser Colibri until Lv75 since it lets you get by with a Jaridah Peti and avoid competing with merit parties. Colibri, Puk, and Marsh Murre are also good targets if Lesser Colibri are overcamped.

Hmm, actually Haubergeon is dirt cheap these days, so you'll probably end up getting one.

                          Re: Where are the SAMs?

Woooooo. Got a bit done in the past week. Got all my hakutaku eyes farmed. Got to almost 58. Almost to my hauby! I can't wait to get past 60!

Which brings me to my next question. I've read a bit about sub jobs. There are various threads debating it and what not, and a lot of them have good points. So, I'm going to throw out what I have garnered reading those threads, and would like a little feedback if thats ok.

/WAR - Pretty much a default sub when you aren't doing an event or something?
/THF - Used mostly at events, not in merit or xp parties?
/DRG - A good sub instead of /WAR, but really made awesome with a haste setup, and the cash for a wyvern earring (or luck)?
                          /RNG - Soboro or bust?

The reason I ask, is because all of my subs are not 37. I was RDM before I changed my mind at 66 to play something else. I choose SAM, I love it, but most of my melee jobs are behind. WAR is 34, DRG 25, NIN 37, RNG 5, THF 16. So, I want to pick the one that I'm going to use the most for now, and then the second being the second most useful to me. I dont have a soboro, so I figured /RNG was the last on my list.

Any and all info/help is appreciated.

                            Re: Where are the SAMs?

The one I use most is /nin. I use it for merits, nyzul, assults, sky, limbus, and events / missions. I was mainly /thf until hitting 75. For leveling you don't want to be an MP sponge, and the best way to do that is by planting hate on the tank. this also helps out if you have overzealous DD's in your pt. Once you hit 75 and you start doing other stuff, /nin keeps you alive. If you /war you will die, lol. Also, when doing missions or fighting event mobs, /nin will allow you to get off your 5-6 WS creating nice skillchains. You can really take huge chucks of HP getting off all the SC's without dieing.
75: Sam, Nin, Blm, Thf, Pld, Cor, Rdm

Actually, you can make SAM/THF work pretty well post-60 before merits. You give up some in raw damage (no DA, no Berserk), but gain the ability to dump hate on to the tank instead of calling the mob's attention to you. That lets EVERYBODY let loose a bit more...

How do you handle shadows with hasso and seigan up? Getting rid of it to cast a shadow seems like it would be pretty lame.
