  • SAM/DRG...bad idea?

    I kinda like it...but many people been telling me that SAM/DRG are looked down at and even laughed at...

    So main quest is, Is it pointless to be a SAM/DRG? Should I just be SAM/WAR?

    There's been lots of testing on SAM/DRG. If you want to see it, visit Rukenshin's live journal.

    Long story short, /drg is awesome for TP gain with the assistance of jump. Whether or not I'd use it in an exp party though, I probably would stick with /war. It's very situational.

        I hear it works pretty well with Soboro as you can get a lot of hits from Jumps and amass a lot of TP very quickly, but how practical it actually is is beyond me.

          Im new so Im kinda confused...

          A friend is saying having berserk and warcry is useful...but SAMs are not tanks and the extra damage from Berserk and the enmity gained from Warcry in a full party makes the monster attack you...

          I thought SAMs were good for WS chaining...so wouldn't a SAM/DRG be better?

          So confused >.<

            /drg also makes capping haste easy with the earring that is activated by dragoon subjob. 5% haste on an earring is not bad at all, although you would have to give up brutal or bushi

              It's largely for abusing Jump, High Jump & Soboro as well as the wyvern earring.

                  It is sad to say but almost all jobs have to have certain subjobs leveled for certain situations. If you want to SAM/DRG that'll probably be fine, but you might want to have RNG, NIN, WAR, DNC, and THF leveled as well. Once you level those jobs, you might want to set your seacom up as:

                  {Party} {Yes, Please}
                  @(XP)
                  {Sub} RNG NIN WAR THF DNC

                  So that way in case you get a person who sees you have /DRG onry, when they read your seacom they'll see you have other stuff leveled just in case.

                    Seriously. Just seek as /DRG, but indicate what other jobs you have available in your seacom, and don't be surprised or offended if a party asks you to change.

                      Well my DRG current lvl is 35, my WAR is almost 25, my THF is 15 (sigh(..

                      I really dont want to lvl war or thf at all T_T

                        I know how you feel. I need to get THF to 37 for BLU and it seems like every time I look at it I cry and change my mind. I'd do it if I was in a static with a RNG so the RNG could do the pulling I just know my pulling skills will lead to death. Dunes 15-37 Can I have it?

                            Pre Y/G/K : /DRG == /WAR
                            post Y/G/K : /DRG -> /WAR, generally
                            Soboro /DRG needs to play very well in order to get benefit from it. Otherwise, Hagun /DRG will give you better number

                              Level /WAR and /THF man, I promise you will like what you see.

                              As a main NIN, prior to completing my SAM. SAM/THF was invaluable to have around, the additional hate they could stick on me with just TA was enough to make my Job so much easier. Also, with the fact that Yu/Ge/Ka can all do so much damage on their own, not to mention double attack procs during WS, to be able to Guarentee a critical on that WS as well makes for just plain AWESOME numbers.

                              I can speak from experience regarding /WAR since it has become my favorite sub job choice for meriting/dynamis/zerging. Once you have a good DA build, /WAR will be sooooo much fun. To be able to DA a good percentage of the time is awesome. I'm at the point now that I have about 19% DA when I'm /WAR, 20% if I'm using Tentacle Sushi, and the damage on WS with a DA proc is so great!

                              I personally can't say I've tried /DRG, my DRG is still level 1, but I do hope to level that sub eventually. Right now, I'm working on /DNC which is 30 and a FANTASTIC sub choice for soloing, after which I wanna work on /RNG then /DRG. All I can really say is, DO NOT COUNT OUT /THF or /WAR as they are easily your best support choices for SAM.
