So I've been having an argument with my sky shell lately.

They arguing that Ushikirimaru > Hagun, which far as I can tell from WS Calculation Math is utter bull except @ 300 TP. (They also said Haste is over rated...)


Who's right? I posted a link to this FFXIclopedia • View topic - Why Hagun is worth every penny. as a reference and STILL they refute it. The one guy in particular saying he out damaged 3 Hagun SAM @ Cerberus by as much as 20k total dmg. (Also claims his torque for +7 skill = 7 more dmg? I've seen nothing on the wiki that says 1 skill = 1 DMG... not in any of the dmg calculations)


So who's right? I mean even if he DID have 14 more dmg (Base DMG + Skill...) the fTP would still beat it out wouldn't it?

The one guy is an idiot for thinking that +7 Skill = +7 DMG.

Hagun is better. 20% more WS damage vs approximately 5% higher WS damage and 9% more DPS. And when you consider a SAM's rate of WS usage, that 20% more WS damage (at 100 TP) carries plenty of weight.

I wouldn't say the difference would be huge or that Hagun is necessarily worth the huge price tag (but that varies from person to person; the price tag may not be so huge to someone else), but that's another topic in itself.

I'm not sure about fTP calculations or anything like that (because I'm crap at that aspect of the game, to be frank), but +7 skill will give him Accuracy+6.3 and Attack+7, so that's worth considering. It certainly won't affect his weapon's DMG though.

Skill != Damage. Skill = Accuracy.

As Far as him "outdamaging" hagun, he could be parsing more per weaponskill (82 dmg and 2 str, as opposed to 75 dmg from hagun) but the point of using a hagun is that the minimum amount of TP you'll ever be using is 200+%. You'll be doing considerably more with 100TP on Hagun than 100TP Ushu.

Conclusion? He's too poor to afford a Hagun and he likes big numbers so more than likely he waits until 300TP to weaponskill, and claims that he outdamages samurais who have actual, decent gear for their job.

I'm kinda surprised someone like this has a Justice Torque, tbh. < .>

Yeah he was ranting on and on (still giving me shit, acting all macho) saying I'm wrong 'cause I got lolgear and that if I ever used hagun I'd see that it sucked...


Chances are those other guys weren't swapping for better gear on WS (assuming there's any shred of truth to this) Everyone in my sky shell is fucking retard. Whenever I bring up test/parse data to back my claims, they shoot it down with their ancectdotes because, you know, word of mouth is so much more reliable to real, conclusive test figures and mathematics. The same guy seriously tried to argue with me that he'd rather have "better stats" for TP/WS as a SAM in meripo over 50%+ haste (which is basically 100% Double Attack...) despite the fact that I posted a Haste chart detailing the precise gains on Haste as you gain more and more (and our main BRD also likes to Minuet + March.... /wrist. Tried explaining to him that you either go double march or don't bother but these guys fucking feel they know it all from eyeballing their own experiences and denounce everything else)


They got all up in my face for "not knowing how weapon skills work"

skill does equal damage. The higher the pdif from atk/def ratio the more damage you will deal. However 7 skill (7 atk) will probably net you 1 maybe 2 damage per attack which is pretty minimal.

I lied, MrMageo actually is right. Skill is equal to attack and accuracy, though the attack you gain from 7 skill is very unnoticable.

Mageo is only right as far as claiming Skill = damage, but that was never in question; the claim was that Skill = DMG, which is not to be confused with damage, and it most certainly is not. If weapon skill over the cap added directly to a weapon's DMG then Suppanomimi would make Joyeuse godly.

Wanna know why anyone argues that Ushikirimaru is better than Hagun? It's because they got Ushikirimaru for free while doing sky farming, and they either don't want to pay for a Hagun and they can't sweet talk their friends into doing the Hagun ENM and let them keep a Hagun that drops rather than doing a sell/split on it.
