Slightly. You give up a few points of str and dex and some HP, but you aren't losing any job abilities or traits, so the performance difference will be minor.

However, people who are looking for members to invite to party will see a sub that's underleveled (even only slightly) as a sign that you don't care about making your char as effective as possible, and therefore might not do as much to contribute to the party as another prospective member. So you will get fewer invites, and of the invites that you do get, fewer will be from really good parties. If I was forming a party I'd rather pick another DD, or ask around on LS, or wait for one to show up, rather than risk getting a half-assed player. Not saying you *are* a half-assed player, but you will *look* like one on search.

I'd recommend leveling your subs (or at least war) first, then get your sam to 65 and farm with Gekko all you want. You can put together good 30 war gear for a couple hundred k, tops - well, depending on your server's economy, but probably.

Is it gimp? Yes. Does it make much difference in effectiveness? Not really. Will you get fewer invites because your sub isnt leveled and there is already a lot of competition for melee slots in PTs? Yes, you will and youre not gonna like it.

You dont need to buy them, you can camp them. But they arent even needed so dont worry about them. Now if you said you were a 60 THF and didnt have them, THEN i might say something to you ;p
