For the Jump though depends on the kind of damage you get out of it at lv. 30 vs Berserk. If Jump gets you an extra say 100+ damage every 1.5 min. then you'll come close to matching. You'll get about 3 Jumps per 1 Berserk.

Berserk just adds on a percent to Attack which in turn just boosts the damage you would do an extra like 10 damage a hit or so. On a weapon like GK you'll probably hit what 10-12 times a min.? So in 3 min. they'll pull off about an extra 360 damage. Get all 3 jumps to land and that's 300+.

The difference really is berserk spreads out the damage per hit and Jump concentrates it in 1 strike. If you have ungodly good accuracy then Jump probably could beat berserk, but otherwise berserk turns out better and a saying covers it's reason why easily "Don't put all your eggs in one basket."

/drg jump is just another attack, The thing is, your timer is 1.5 min,...the thing is, between every fight, you pull, which resets timers, so it's like 2-3 jumps per fight, and I think gk is 12tp, 14 by 30 I think....

As for berserk... While it would be great...sadly it's a reckless decision to keep it on all the time. I've seen samurai's kill thsemlves when they ding to 30, and have berserk like a new toy... Most of the time Sam's are force to CANCEL berserk after WS and fast, or you're going to eat dirt. It gets sort of better as tanks get more ways to get hate later on...but 50/50, your berserking sam is short lived. (This doesn't mean it's not useful)

If you want some fancy WS damage though a 30sam/15thf is good. This is assuming you don't need a 2nd provoker for SATA or something.

at level 50 though... /war get's defender and double attack...This is when your can squeeze some more power out of that berserk... if you get hate, you put up defender, and then cancel it, while still having berserk on(often used tactic for melees post 50).

SO it depends on your tactic... pre 50... it's not totally impossible to be a Sam/drg...abeit if you're just sitting around with no one to SC...that kills it...

how many skillchains can SAMS weapon skills make? I mean if SE made then TP masters, i wouldnt think there would be to many different ones..I'm probably wrong though
I believe gkatana has every element under the ffxi-sun. That means a Sam can SC anywhere, open or close, how ever you want it, and almost whenever you want it...

This is of course assuming you have the level requirements, as trying to close fusion I believe requires lvl100 gkatana.

That's what the job is for.

I thought I saw a sc chart that showed GK only doing either Light or Dark (it might have been wrong or you might be referring to everything but those, I know it does one or the other, but not both) I'm referring to the lvl 3 dark/light sc's not transfixion or whatever the other one is.

Why would you sub DRG? /DRG just suck >_>
You should sub RNG, WAR or THF but not DRG.
I have PTed with some SAM/RNGs at higher lvls and all i can say is they own
i think /RNG is the best choice if u are a SAM.
Equip a bow and spam Sidewinder, u will kick asses :3
you gonna pull a lot of hate so i would recommend this in PLD tanking partys onry

As you notice this cycle circles, with meditation + icarus wing + barrage + 2HR a SAM could probably pull off about 6-7 SCs in succession.

          Double Post Edited:
With 2 SAMs in a party really trying you have 12-14 SCs in succession. Just cycle that one I mentioned and you go around on it 3 whole times and maybe get 2 more done.

That isn't the only cycle GKs can do if you look at the Skillchart you'll find ones that can cycle between just 2 elements to going to all 6 (excluding Light and Dark).
BTW, that formula is next to impossible, because the 2nd+ sc timing is much shorter then 1st.

Barrage is too slow... if you're lucky you may be able to get it off with SC+ barrage+ med+SC ...though even that's pushing it... med is fast, but not instant...about 3 seconds...so you have to buffer it...

Usually it's pretty impossible without another helper.

Read other people's post... liek how sam/drg is good at lvl 20-30, and so and so and so.

          As for Sam/rng....

There are some equips for Samurais to increase Racc, like the JSE lvl 50m AF, rings... but realistically, Sam/rng is going to miss a lot with a C+ bow, even with sushi on IT+

Usually Sam/rng are used for missions, and NMs, not XP. A sam/rng, you don't blindly use that job and think it'll work... you need the right monster, the right pt, the right eq.

And have you ever read the discription of Sidewinder....geez.

It's a VERY specialized situation, and should not be blindly used.

What about SAM/RNG at endgame when you're only xp'ing on VT etc.? Granted you'd still probably have to use sushi when RNG's can use yellow curry and get extra dmg, but would a SAM/RNG using sushi do more dmg than a SAM/WAR using atk food?

As for using barrage to get enough tp for another sc...do you get enough shots with /rng on barrage to get 100tp with any weapon? If you do I guess you could do it assuming you got lucky enough to have quick shot activate on that particular shot, otherwise the delay would kill you (especially using a high delay weapon to get 100tp off of it).

Re: does this job combo sounds unique?

Hmm, even with a 1.5 min timer, you rarely get more than 1 jump in per fight. As you get higher in level, fights don't take that long. The extra attack from the attack bonus is small, very small. 10 to be exact.

Once you hit 30, berserk (+25% attack) for every 3 min out of 5 provides much better damage. The jump might get you a 1 hit tp boost, but only if it hits, so it's not nearly enough to be significant, considering that gkatana does less damage and provides less tp than drg lances.

You also get double attack at lvl 50, which IMO is better than jump. Consider that double attack goes off at ~10%, and that your standard gkatana has a delay of 450. That means you get an extra attack every 1:15 instead of 1:30, and double attack also has the chance to go off during zanshin and WS.

Aside from just damage figures, there isn't any other sub that's as good for backup tanking should you open a SC for a thf or /thf.

Even sneak attack on a 1min timer is usually better than jumps, if you are good at managing tp for SA+WS when possible, while also facilitating SCs. You need to be skilled in knowing when and when not to use meditate for that. A SA+enpi at low levels does pretty good damage on it's own (about 50-100% more than normal), better when closing a SC. Upgrade to SA+jinpu later, and then SA+yukkikaze for some real damage. However, since WS damage isn't a main source of damage until 60+ (you must use yuki, geko, or kasha), /thf sub is fairly mediocre, unless fighting things that are really difficult to hit, or closing a SC.

Rng sub is really… no longer any good post patch. Gkatana does about the same damage, and the WSs often miss. You can run out to optimal range and shoot, but you’ll basically be a gimped ranger. I don’t see any point in rng sub unless in a special circumstance.

This isn't the monk or drg forums. However I will say that drg/mnk or mnk/drg is a horrible idea. It's not just bad, it's laughably bad.
