Anybody ever try a static with samurai as the main tank? Samurai has just as many hp as a war and i THINK as much vit as one. You have great Parrying and Evasion, so with the right gear think it could be done? Hate shouldn't be a problem with constant ws, even if it is get your good old thief or /thf right? ^_^. Just wondering if anybody has tried it. It would free up room for another DD, so get one that chains well with the samurai. Between taking hits, meditate, store TP. You'll be pumping out ws. Or maybe I'm wrong and you'd be a dead sam haha.

I dunno if it's just me...But I take damage worse than a mage. So I wouldn't really recommend it (although high lvl (74+), I have heard of sam/nin tanking...but eh).Take...luck! Take luck and care. Take care of the luck. Good luck taking care of the luck that you might have...if you have luck, take it, care for it. TAKE LUCK CARE OF IN IT WHEN YOU TAKE LUCK CARE OF IN IT

I have done some early Tanking with SAM/WAR till about 25... (I wanted to see if it would work as good as when I tanked with my monk) I did ok... but as soon as I hit kazham I hated it... too much down time... and theres no way to "Third eye tank" mobs efficiently... So all in all... Don't even try...Dualaura Samurai and Paladin

No, you're right. A well prepared, and well equipped SAM who knows what he/she's doing could be a great tank. With Myochin Kote or Rasetsu Jinpachi, Rice Ball effects are enhanced; meaning Rice Balls would give you DEF+50 and VIT+2, and some others have ATK+50/DEF+30, etc. With WAR sub and using JAs like Provoke, Defender, etc you could keep steady hate... and being a Samurai, the ability to use WS more often is a big bonus. I've never seen one in action myself, but I don't really see why SAM can't be a tank. Although, I think PLDs, WARs, or NINs would make better tanks in any occasion.Sony NW-E507 [wishlist]

I think many believe it can't be done because they always see the sam decked out in attack, str gear etc. If they were fitted themselves with VIT/defense gear for certain slots and the right food I bet it'd work. I've always wondered why Samurai's AF has + Enmity on them, and their chest has the effect of boosting tp when hit right? Maybe Samurai were meant to be tanks and not Ninja? ^_^.

I may be wrong as im remembering this from memory, but the original description of the ninja was to assist the paladin to debuff the mobs and make it easier for the party to slay them. Blink was originally thought of the same as the whm's use for them... as a precautinary measure...
And as for before, I am just stating my opinion... I would love to be proved wrong that Samurai are good tankers... (just get a good whm and a red mage or blm with whm sub as backup healing and you should be ok)

holding hate at higher levels becomes very difficult.
Add on all the +Enmity and all it seems a SAM could potentially be a good Tank, of course from what I see it does mean they have to sacrifice power. It makes sense for that to occure though you can not be both it's one or the other, but it could give more SC potential.

like i said, if sam had more ways of gaining and holding hate(from sam main job) we might be able to tank.
i've tanked EM-T mobs before with.. somewhat relative ease as sam/nin(wsnm's -- the steel cyclone tree gave 110 exp or something like that with 5 people in party, so i'm just guesstimating what it would normall check). as sam/war with the same evasion gear on as my sam/nin, i could probably tank in a weapon party in sky.. but still not as efficient as a pld or nin. probably similar to a war.

Fact - WAR has a ton of potential, the only limits on the job are the player

I asked some people in a BBS, their personal opinions are SAM is kinda like a replacement-ish tank, something to use when there's no NINs, PLDs, or WARs. SAM makes a decent tank but as other people and I stated before, a bit more downtime and less 'efficient' D;/Sony NW-E507 [wishlist]

Well regardles of how well they would do, your SAM tank would probably be real happy about capping parrying and evasion while leveling XD
Honestly though i was forced to tank twice in semi upper levels, once at 55 and once at 64. At 55 with defense gear and riceballs along with a whm, PT really didn't suffer in much of a way at all, but my damage was extremely gimped cause of it. At 64 it was just a mess, some JP PT had me tanking crawlers in Boyahda without a whm and MP just couldn't keep up, we would get like chain 3 tops. One perk though to tanking on sam is it's actually pretty easy to keep hate with the use of AF or AF2 lol.

From my experience, Sam tanks are almost the same as war/mnk tanking. Not the best tank around but it is possible...
If your static PT wants to make life easier then you need a ninja. Unless you're prepare for some hard worksThere are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot,
