What is the point of the Samurai..?

DRK+SAM+PLD= 2 lvl 3 chains per battle. DRK+SAM=light PLD+SAM=Dark, that should kill the mob pretty quickly.

now RNG+SAM, I dont see how to do lvl 3... Ranger has 2 Fusions, and Samurai has Distortion and Fusion, unless the samurai self renkei Fragmentation (which I think yukikaze+gekko makes, but I'm not 100% sure) I dont see how you do lvl 3 (or perhaps 3way renkei with the PLD which isnt the best option).
Seeing that comment made me wonder, just checking on what you guys do on the SAM+RNG set up.

The cost

There is only one real disadvantage that I have heard for Samurai, and it is the cost of weapons. :sweat:

All things being equal, such as acc gear and armor, GRK cost a lot. They're usually more expensive than other weapon types of equal level. Because of this little fact, I am delaying playing Samurai until I have a good cash reserve available.

Yeah, the SAMs biggest strength is they are insaine TP builders. I play RNG and many times I've hit 300% TP before any other job even reaches 100% (I get 200% TP by the time a MNK reaches 100%). Even though I can do that as RNG in order for me to do that I put myself very close to the top of the hate list and as a result of that I end up having to stop attacking for a good length of time before using a WS so that hate doesn't stick on me.

The SAM however has beaten me in geting to 100% TP a LOT of the times and they are able to do it much safer allowing them to perform a WS much quicker without as big a penalty. That makes their TP building ability immensly more useful especially when done with Ice type SCs for Mages to MB off of.

Also their abilities opens up a LOT more potential to get extreem amounts of damage done by the Lv. 3 Renkei's and MBs off of them. So SAMs are quite useful when their jobs strengths are focused and used properly.

5 million...wow. So other melee damage dealers don't need to spend that much on armor? I was under the impression that DRK, SAM and DRG spent roughly the same amount on armor and acc gear.

IF you stick to using the Gi stuff for SAM then it costs a lot, but for the poor man like me, go with stuff like royal squires armor at 40 like i am and then the brigandine at 45 to replace your royal squires body armor, and if your from bastok, save those CP when Lving for Centurions at lvl 30 .... Well, DRG either have to spend more or less, because the "equivalent" for DRG costs a poo load to buy. So most end up just wearing AF/JSE of oobarness till cardinals vest or assault jerkin.

Oh, I also spent like 310ishk on attack gear, was planning on buying more but there seemed to be no difference in min dmg curve, was still hitting flies and crabs for same. I kinda did that on recommendation on DRG forums. Had a fun time reselling it.

If you looked at Nodachi's equipment he has insane stuff.
Haubergeon +1, Amemit +1, 2 Sniper Rings, Life Belt, etc.
On my server these cost about 5 Million all together. Not to mention Kamewari is a pain to get.
