  • Accuracy and Attack?

I know this is a very fundamental question, but Ive noticed that on equipment there can be two different stat bonuses for both Accuracy and Attack.

Attack makes sense to me because I can see that when I look at my equipment menu as an actual number, however I cannot see accuracy listed anywhere. Is this some hidden stat that increases with lvl? If so does anyone know if there are any foods that buff it or other ways to improve Accuracy other than equipment with + Accuracy.

Also does your Attack number only factor into how much dmg you do or does it also figure into how accurately or frequently you hit?

    Thanks for any responses.

Accuracy isn't the only hidden status in the game. There are many - many hidden stats in the game. You have Enimty, Accuracy, Ranged Accuracy, Ranged Attack, Spell cast interupt, movement speed (which really has nothing that you can equip to change it, only flee/chocobo/curse/gravity will effect it), Wards, etc...

As far as food changing your accuracy, there really isn't any way to tell for certain if there is one. There are many foods and ingredients that appear to do nothing when you eat them, but that because they are altering one of the hidden stats and if it's a good or bad change can't tell. Only thing you can do is if your hp is low and mp is low and you eat an item that doesn't regenerate hp or mp and none of the visible stats seem to of changed then I would say some hidden stat has been changed.

Which one you'll have to test really to see, and just look for patterns if you suddenly able to hit more easily, if the enemy after a ranged attack suddenly halts it's attack on you, if the ranged attack itself is doing 1 - 2 hits more then it ever did before, etc...

Attack does factor some to dmg, but it also effects your accuracy. If you want to test this try two jobs that are skilled in two different weapons and have the jobs wield a weapon not to their skill. You'll notice that even though the weapon itself has a high DMG number Attack will drop compaired to the weapon with a lower damage number that they are skilled in. If you attack with the weapon they arn't skilled in you'll miss more but you'll notice the damage it does is still considerably more then the one they are skilled in but the skilled one will hit more frequently.

Also to mention the weapon the character is skilled in will have better parrying ability then one that they are not skilled in.

The higher your attack, the weaker enemies will con. The weaker enemies con, the easier they are to hit. Enhancing ATK seems to make up for a little bit of level disparity, but not much (ie. you may see a monster con slightly different depending on your gear). I would highly recommend against ramping up on ATK gear thinking you're going to have much more accuracy.

In general though, ATK raise your overall damage potential. Strength on the otherhand raises your minimum damage and decreases the variance in damage (ie. you'll hit with more consistant damage the higher your STR). STR does raise ATK slightly as well.

As for +ACC foods, Optical/Eyeball soup. Eyeball soup goes for about 5k on Valefor and if you're on Valefor, buy some! I have one on auction that I bought for weapon leveling, but never used! =)

      Good luck in your travels.

DEX has been long understood to equate to 2DEX = 1ACC. It's an attributing factor to ACC, but not something I would consider a "big factor". Applying straight ACC gear is a greater impact on the math side of the to-hit algorythm.

I still maintain there is some mystisism behind accuracy, ie. Samurai intrinsically have bad karma, which is the natural explanation for fairly consistant missing. =)
