Re: where can i get a GOOD renkei chart

It's not as up-to-date as Aden's, but I like the different versions of Banzai's chart . I just find the layout easier to deal with.

There is no rush. If you're not willing to take your time, don't be surprised when no one wants to give you much of theirs.

Re: where can i get a GOOD renkei chart

All WS have one or more renkei attributes. This attribute may or may not be related to the element of the damage it deals, or the color of its icon in the WS menu. For example, Double Thrust and Fast Blade both have a white light icon in the WS list, but Double Thurst is light attribute (Transfixion) and Fast Blade is earth (Scission). The Transfixion square on the chart has connecting lines to Compression, Reverberation, and Scission, meaning if someone uses a Transfixion skill, you can follow with a skill of any of those three attributes to make a chain. In the case of Compression and Reverberation, the skillchain produced will be the same as the attribute of the WS that closed it. For Scission, however, the connection goes outward to the second ring, containing the level 2 renkei. If you open a chain with a Transfixion attribute skill, and close it with a Scission one, you make a Distortion skillchain. You see that the Distortion box has connections to Fusion and Gravitation. If you follow a Distortion skillchain with a Fusion attribute skill such as Mistral Axe, it will make a Fusion skillchain. Follow it with a Gravitation skill like Evisceration and it makes Darkness.

For quick reference the other charts are easier, but that one gives you some insight into how skillchains actually work.

Yeah, if you're in a party just wondering what skillchains you can do, glance at Aden's. The second one breaks it down into concepts that are easier to internalize once you understand them, rather than giving you the finished product. That one is like telling you that all objects in the universe experience a force that draws them inexorably towards eachothers centers of mass, instead of just telling you that an apple will fall from a tree towards the ground and it will also roll down a hill. ^^

If you have a firefox browser give the FFXI Skillchain Calculator extension a try.
