Alright, right now I'm a lvl 12 MNK and really want to become a samuria. I'm just curious if I should get to 30 with that or switch my job while I'm at it. Reason is, I wanted to go thf and sub with monk, once I finished the subjob quest with mnk. After that I wanted to switch to THF and sub monk and get the sam job with that. So my question is, should I just completely switch my job? Also, I've mixed opinions on the sam quest, so what exactly makes it so difficult?

........interesting, very original of you to choose the thief to get to the samurai job^^. The only prob i see with that is that it would take forever to do that.
-my current setting: Picked the job i wanted to sub with a samurai and lvl that up to lvl 30 using a weak sub job to get there. For example: I am using a lvl 19 warrior and subbing it with a lvl 3 whm or a lvl 6 theif until i get to lvl 30
but use whatever you want to do here are the effects of subjobs for the samurai in simplest form.
monk= VIT and HP galore but many of job ablitlites are useless since they involve hand to hand combat and samurai relies on 2h katana.
thief= Lots of DEX and able to make good money but not the best at tanking.
warrior= Able to tank and VIT and STR bonuses, plus if you want to use a spear for the samurai u can lvl up your spear tecnique before hand, but doesnt add much to the samurai's weak status abnormality defense (MND).
whitemage= Perfect for soloing but not the best for partying.
black mage= Can do extra damage with black magic but wont do a whole lot with a great katana and magic isnt the purpose of a samurai.
redmage= Weird sub job since it adds white and black magic with a little damage but a weird chose for a samurai and not the most efficiant.
IF you really have time on your hands and you want to use an advanced job on your samurai by all means go ahead (this game isnt goin anywhere for a lonnnnnng time)
darkknight= Strength and a little magic but cant provoke.
paladin= Defense, a little whitemagic, but not alot of DEX.
ranger= This is an interesting combo, you can do alot of damage with range weapons since samurais can use bows but doesnt add much to strength.
beast tamer= able to use other monsters to fight bujt doest add much to stats.
ninja= much like theif but samurai doest rely on two katanas but ninjistu is a little cool to have around.
bard= Gives the ablity to use songs but still doesnt add much to stats or the ability to tank.
summoner= NOOOOOOOO worst combo EVER for a samurai! samurais dont rely on magic, samurais are made for tanking and damage.
dragoon= if you use spears for the samurai, sub this but, im not sure, u might not be able to use the wavyrn since i believe you can only use your main job's two hour ability.
hope this info helps^^ if im wrong about something someone please correct it.Luffy--So which swords are yours? I didn't know, so I brought all three.....

Zoro-- Of course, you could obey the law...and let them kill you!

Thanks for the info...I think I'm gonna switch to war, since my monk will be good to go when I get my subjob quest done. Then I can just sub war when I get sam eventually.Jobs:NIN 40, THF 30, WAR26, RDM17, MNK 12, BLM8, WHM 4

Personal opinion/reccomendation:
Level monk to 18, unlock subjob quest. Start warrior/mnk and level to 30+ to unlock samurai. Level other subs to toy around with as you see fit, but this way you will always have the standard warrior sub to fall back on til at least level 60. Though once you get to 30+ on samurai and fire off beserk and mediate a few times, you probably won't want any other subs other than thief for farming. Monk strikes me as a mostly situational defensive sub (dunno how useful it would be without provoke though) , thief as a situational hate control sub (really only useful post 60), but warrior has good defensive/offensive/hate control(provoke) potential all rolled into one.
If you can get 5 or 6 competent 30ish players to the two fight locations and make your way to norg a couple times, the quest itself really isn't that hard.

once you get to lvl 60 with any job and use the samurai as a lvl 30 support job, you got a combo that can pull a hella lot of weapon abilities because the samurai doesnt start to get uber until lvl 30 with meditate.
--also! i forgot to mention if your going to use the dragoon and samurai job together, go with dragoon/samurai. The dragoon can pull off deadly combos and plus can call the wavyrn.
--thank you jabo, i didnt realize that.
~~if you want to use your samurai for pulling and ranged attacks sub either a ninja, theif, or a ranger.
also straiths opinoin could also work.
so i hope this clarifies alot for you.Luffy--So which swords are yours? I didn't know, so I brought all three.....
