Monk Vs. Sam?

I was wondering, which class can solo better, do more damage, and find groups easier, monk or sam?
Can anyone tell me the pros and cons on being a monk and sam. And which is the best subjob for monk/sam.
I also wanted to know which weapons I should level up when I get this game for PS2.
Because my friend is going to be a Elvaan nin/thf and i wanted to be a Galka monk/? or sam/?.

your friend should rather be nin/war, thf/nin..... nin/thf doesnt really work in groups after a while.

monks have less skillchains available to them, but some of their WS are very good. Raging Fists for ex. Hard to tell who does more damage, so far at 55 I've not seen a lot of monks, and those that I saw usually weren't all that great in the damage department.

Chi Blast and Chakra are nice to have.

For a monk, I'd suggest either war or thf sub, perhaps if you feel strange, samurai at 60. war at lower levels for provoke.

Everything he said was true but to tie up loose ends. . . Monk overall hits for more than sam. As far as soloing. . . my question would be if you're talking about soloing exp or like NMs and farming. Because you really can't/shouldn't solo many jobs past level say 15 in this game. But between those two jobs it may be nice to have Chakra for occasional HP regens while soloing but with the rapid TP and third eye of samurai they do well as well. As far as getting into PTs it's again hard to say - often times monk and sam are put together in PTs but hmm overall monk may be slightly easier in the 60+ levels.

I've heard that in the 50s, Monks are just complete ownage.

Mnk/war, that is.

They get the added kick, double attack from warrior, berserk, passive atk+ =p

I've also heard that on average a Mnk will hit for 3 times per turn, compared to the usual 2 :

Both have their places.

A monk will pull out slightly ahead in terms of damage than a Samurai.. however a Samurai has the ability to tank that much bit better.

A monks WS are somewhat stronger than a Samurai's.. however a Samurai weilding a GK later on is an endless source for starting Skillchains. A Samurai will build up tp faster, however Monks easily are the second highest tp builders in the game.

In other words where a monk is more leaning towards damage dealer... a Samurai leans that way but not as much.. but what he/she gives up there is offerings to the group such as some tank abilties and SC set up.

Samurai is kind of weak at low levels.

they start to shine at lvl 30 with meditate, that's why.

I would say there's less high lvl samurai, as alot of people just use them for subs

as far as weapons, well, great katanas and hth of course!

which ones specifically.... I think the choice is much more obvious for samurai (less to choose from)
