Samurai and It's spear

Just a question I am starting to like Samurai's and since I am a Warrior I want to to raise it's Spear skill but. When I try out Samurai at what lvl Samurai's start Using Spears? Most high lvl sams I see running around with spears? is it just because of the penta? help please

well, its already gona take a while for your 26 to get the speer skill cap, especialy if its lv.0

start usin the speer once youget SAM, then you can build it as you go. but ALWAYS lvl up your Great Katana too! It will be better over all and after a while youl drop the speer.

Penta Thrust is nothing.
I heard from some vets in my linkshell say that SAM/RNGs do 900+ Damage with Sidewinder (I think SAMs learn that at level 55-57).
Aye, its up to you what you want. With Pentathrust it is phesible that 85% of your attacks are Weapon Skills...

I usually hear you should use Spear at higher levels for Samurai (I think Lvl. 51+). Just because of Pentrathrust. Use Great Katana up until then, because Samurai have a A in that catergory. The GK skill caps at higher levels so you get can hit more and do more dmg. From what Ive heard, a lot of people at high lvl Samurai say that they don't like using Spears in parties. I dunno...I guess Ill find out once I get there........

I heard about it too, But I asked a dragoon lvl 47 the other day, annd he told me:

I just use spears cause it,s damage--_>delay is better

SAM/RNG didnt know that sub RNG could do WSs of bows. In fact they cant im almost 99% sure they cant.

I guess my bow WS's i used as thf/rng when lving up bow must be a result of /start sarcasm/ MY MADDD HAXORZZZZ SKILZZZ!!!!111one /end sarcasm/

You can use bow WS if you sub RNG and yes Spear is teH sux0rz0rz0rz in PT situations.

yep spear sux for pts, sure penta thrust is nice cause it gives you alot of tp back but you'll have poor renkei/skillchains with em, and all 5 of the thrust arent guranteed...... also you'll usually out dmg spear with great katana neways, for example i did tachi: jinpu did 279 dmg, drg/thf did sneak penta and only did 271 and he said all his thrust hit.... heh and on the sam/rng note.. u can use bow ws if u sub rng

I think both of the weapons are viable options. I have a set PT, and my SAM always levels his spear and great katana while we are leveling. I have never had a problem with it, and the effectiveness of the party is not hindered by it. I think it is useful, if not necessary, to have both of those skills leveled up.

Sure Penta might not be all that great, but some of the weapon skills are flexible enough to use if you chose to go with the spear instead.

The Double THrust/Tachi: Enpi >> Viper Bite skill chain can be devastating.

Sure penta isn't all that great, but spears are a bit quicker than your GKT. ^^ So while you may not do as much dmg in one swing as GKT the total overall dmg over the course of the battle should be higher. Of course that's theoritically speaking \O.O/

But thats considering if you hit all the times......Since spear caps at a lower level its not as effective overall as GK......Course Im not a SAM yet....so I wouldn't know the effectiveness between GK and Spear firsthand......

you get the ws's of your sub

so a rdm/war can use red lotus, a sam/rng can use sidewinder
