Samurai/Theif Debate

I'm looking for any helpful advice, I was searching for a good match up that stands out. Theif is obviously a good sub job to sub with almost any melee job. If you have any information that shows the pros or cons of this job combo please post it.

Pros
- Ups Samurai Agility
- Ups Samurai Evasion
- Ups Gil making oppurtunity
- Abilities to suprise enemy and cause more damage
- Still able to sustain damage
Cons
- Slows down theif
- Less chance of escape
- Less money making oppurtunity for theif.

samurai doesn't really need agility or evasion. Mainly concentrate on attack or accuracy, depending on your race. And most attack+ items also have evasion - on them.

- Ups Gil making oppurtunity
not really, you'll get double gil, but most of the time when you level you don't fight beastmen, so no gil. And treasure hunter doesn't help much, when you fight things while leveling, they don't usually drop super expensive items. Just get a thf in your party if you want that.

- Abilities to suprise enemy and cause more damage
WTF? I dunno what the hell you're talking about suprising enemies, like being a thief allows you to jump out and attack out of no where. And your damage will be considerably less with thf sub. Each hit will do less damage, and sneak/trick attack don't work as well when you sub thf.

- Still able to sustain damage
I will tell you this, Samurai's don't really make good tanks. Subbing thf will make you even worse. Less defence, less HP, no usefull job abilities.

- Less chance of escape
where the hell do people come up with this stuff?

Actually you can get in good first attack. Just use Sneak Attack. I do it all the time. You don't need to be in a party for Sneak Attack to work. Use SA and engage the enemy from behind. As long as your first strike is from behind, SA works and does good DMG.

I'm a THF right now and plan on being SAM. I like SAM because of all the WS and how fast a SAM gains TP. I like doing alot of WS. Combo Sneak+Trick+WS would be great IMO.

A Samurai is a warrior not a theif. Since it's a game do whatever you choose to.

I came up with that from basic knowledge, its kind of obvious that theifs have better evasion than Samurais. And seeing that I dont have the game Your being rather childish for accusing me of being stupid when all I did was make a general assumption and ask for advice.

Well the THF sub will add a little extra DEX for accuracy and such, not a lot, but a little. And if you get to lvl 30 you get Sneak which does more damage but a SAM/WAR seems to make more sense to me *shrugs*

Yah ur right and sam/thf is still not bad as a combo, that surely gives more agi and u hit faster...

AGI doesn't let you hit faster from what I read from bunch of other posts. Only Monk's Martial Arts increases the speed of the attack but nothing ells.

If you want thf because it does a lot of dmg then you should look at warriors when they use berserk + attack boost.

I havn't tried it myself but from what I've read thats the case.

there's no way you can be level 70 and think that agi effects the attacking speed.

I never said that the agi affects, i said that u hit faster and gain more agi

never said that the hit faster is because of the agi
