  • Confused??

After reading almost all of the post, I'm some sort of confuse on my own. Therefore I'll post a few questions on my own. I apologize if they have been asked before.

    1) Let's say I've have a sub-job whm, when i change my sub-job to blm while i get to keep all those skills/spells that my old sub-job have or will they be erased?

    2) Is there any specific/best hunting ground at each specific rdm level range? If so, possible to name some?

    3) What are rdm job basically in a group?

    4) I'm stuck in between what to choose for my sub-job as a rdm. Anyone able to give the pro and cons for whm/blm as a sub-job?

    5) What are the spells/skills that a rdm must have to survive in a party and alone?

I'll really appreciate if anyone would answer the above.

    • Kobun, I think you'll find most of your answers if you just take some time and search this part of the forum. Till then, here's a quick and dirty run-down of answers.

      1) Let's say I've have a sub-job whm, when i change my sub-job to blm while i get to keep all those skills/spells that my old sub-job have or will they be erased?

You will always *know* the scrolls you have learned, but you will not be able to use them if your job or subjob aren't permitted to use them. Say you've leveled WHM high enough to learn Curaga. You will not be able to cast this spell as a RDM, nor will you be able to cast it with a BLM SJ. The only way you can cast this WHM-only spell is if your WHM SJ is high enough to cast it.

      2) Is there any specific/best hunting ground at each specific rdm level range? If so, possible to name some?

Check under General Information or on the Leveling guide section in the menu on your left. Leveling is really based on region for the first 20 levels then folks go to Jeuno until level 30 for the most part.

      3) What are rdm job basically in a group?

RDM primary role is a debuffer. We can also support heal and support nuke if there are WHM and BLM in the party. If the RDM is the only caster, then they can sub in for a WHM (though in a limited capacity). We can engage in melee just as well as WARs until around level 10 or so, but after that we trail off in efficacy.

At high levels RDM are ultimate support for casters with Regen and Refresh as well as tossing in the odd nuke to Magic Burst. Our main role, from level 1 till level 70 is to rape the health and battle power of enemies via debuffs and status ailments.

      4) I'm stuck in between what to choose for my sub-job as a rdm. Anyone able to give the pro and cons for whm/blm as a sub-job?

Discussed elsewhere in the forum at length. Here's the quick and dirty:
RDM/WHM - more MP, more effective heals, access to Area-Effect heals, status-ailment cures.
RDM/BLM - more MP, more effective nukes, access to Area-Effect Nukes, Warp, Conserve MP.

      5) What are the spells/skills that a rdm must have to survive in a party and alone?
The RDM Debuff Fab 5: Dia, Paralysis, Silence, Bind, Dispel

Niceties: Poison, Bio, Gravity, Sleep, Slow

PT essentials: Cure (I-III), Regen, Refresh

Solo: Blaze\Ice\Thunder Spikes, En-type spells, Blink, Stoneskin, Phalanx (if you're rich), Cure (I-III), Regen, Aquaveil

If I missed anything, someone fill it in, i'm typing half-asleep :p

      • Did you mean Blind instead of Bind? I don't find much use for Bind, the first one, because it breaks the second I cast it.

        • Here's a tip for the nubbiest of nubs:

Do NOT waste your Gil at low levels on the Bar- or En- spells unless you have a massive surplus. Yes, they do have some effect, but when you are PTing you'll have no real use for them, and from lvl12 or so on, you're going to be PTing exclusively to level up, and any item farming you'll do will be on fairly easy monsters at that point.

If you start having a lot of money and want to give yourself a little boost, feel free to invest in the En spell that will be most effective (Enthunder always ticks off a few extra HP in Valkurm, for example), but do not consider any of them a priority. You'll be investing in so much expensive armor and other spells that it's not worth your money unless you have a lot of spare cash.

ADDN: Also, Aquaveil is a much better investment than it's given credit for, especially if you're as fast an enfeebler as I am.
          There will be cake.

          • RDM or tank?

Ok I played RDM good enough to know how Cool it is, But The reason im starting to suck as it is the $ and the spells. I like the Dragoon, since i was lvl 30 I did the Quest. Now he is lvl 12. I was thinking of dropping RDM completetly since it is klike the 3rd expenisivest Job in the game. AVG spellg go from 5-10k at AH and 4-8k at Magic shop in jeuno.

Im really low on cash, The most i ever had was 10k >,<
I Really went DRG b/c I think that melees are cheaper than Mages Especially RDM's

I was thinking of subbn SMN cuz im an elvaan and i need that MP boost.
ANy higher lvl RDMs can tell me how to make a budget? what spells not to buy? SHould i stay RDM/SMN? and fast cash options? Thank You if you can answer a quiestion B/C im lost in thought.

            • RDM is a job for fun. No one can tell you to play this and that class. You should play as the job that you find the most fun and not be hindered by the money.

Low on money? Have you been farming for gil? Here is a few tips on farming for gil.....

Usually it is nice to get xp along with gil, but if your in a hurry to make gil then try the following ways...

              Quest for Drain and sell
Dark Crystals and Sleepshrooms from Fungars
              Silk Threads from crawlers

Mainly stacks of 12 sell good. I don't know why people like to sell stacks of 12 in Jueno where it's 500 gil transaction fee when you can sell at home for like 5 gil transaction fee.

Mainly it just takes time. Don't rush it too much.

I don't see reason in subbing a SMN. If you sub BLM you already get MP Conservation ( level 20 ), Refresh ( level 41) , and Convert ( level 40). If that is not enough MP then you can get RSE and a hairpin.

              • With SUM as sub you get a HUGE amount of extra MP... I partied with one once BTW.
It is really kind of scarey just how much MP it gives you when it is a sub...
I am currently Blm as sub because it is the highest MP I can get right now... but once I hit 60 SUM is my sub... (60 because it will be hard to level SUM without getting more avatars that Carbuncle.)
But it shouldn't be too hard to do the first fifteen levels or so of SUM without any summons other than Carbuncle... and the MP boost will be amazing, even if you are an Elvaan.
BTW I have heard that the Dispel quest is hard / requires a lot of fame... something of that sort from my LS... can I get any info on this?

                Thanks!

                    • Well, Mithra and Hume are practically even at early levels, but around mid levels Mithra win the AGI and DEX race by a large margin while Hume's enjoy a touch higher STR, VIT and MND. Both races have equal HP and MP each level, with the main difference being that the Mithra hit MUCH faster and evade better in melee than Hume, but Hume's will hit for more per hit and can take a bit more damage than a Mithra. The MND gain on a Hume is negligable, but it will boost your healing ability and spell resistance a bit.

                      • I don't think Mithra attack faster (if they do, then that's news to me)

they are just more accurate, but have quite a bit lower strength.

and they've got low charisma, a warning just in case you're considering subbing bard or beastmaster.

                        • You're right. Only our weapon determines how fast we can attack them.

Theoretically, yes but actually they don't have any problem with that. We have Galka BRD and Mithra BST in our LS but they do it the same as our races do.

                              • Since I don't have SMN, RDM/BLM has the highest MP pool (beating RDM/WHM by 10mp, or so, heh). So yeah, you like nuking, go nuts.
