Add this job to the list of things pwnd by RDMs in Ballista: Blue Mage.
Now I'll admit, I was afraid. Blue Mages can take out half a mob's HP with 4 spells, self-SC Light and MB on their own self-SC and pretty much solo a link down to half life if need be, all while curing the party at the same time and pulling the next mob.
Yes, I was afraid.
Until one ran head first into me in Brenner and died before I got 100% TP.
So what happened was, there was a new person in the LS, and me, deciding to forgo my usual stance of silence, boldly proclaimed that I was the best RDM in the LS.
An un-named RDM claimed otherwise, and said he'd take me on in PvP.
Hmmm, ok, sure. RDM vs RDM? I can do that.
Wait. No. He wanted to take me out on his BLU.
Huh?
Ok, that works too. I guess.
I decided that the best sub for the job would be WAR. In fact, I sub WAR all the time in PvP, because as someone stated:
"Fighting a RDM PvP is like trying to beat on an Armored car with a stick. When the RDM subs WAR, it's like the Armored Car now has Nukes."
Subbing WAR is fun. RDM/WAR is pretty much unbeatable, and the only jobs I actually truly fear are DRK and RNG.
I've beaten MNKs, I've beaten WAR, I've beaten SAM. In fact, I taken 2 at the same time at one point or another.
I don't like DRK, because they can do like 1k damage in 3 seconds and I don't like RNG because they can do the same thing...
Worse thing about SAM is that Tachi: Gekko Silences, but otherwise, they're harmless.
MOVING ON.
Long story short, I raped the BLU.
He was mad.
Called me a cheater, cause I used "Silence."
Wow. Really now? So I'm a cheater because I crippled you?
He subbed NIN. Basic strategy I do for anyone subbing Nin is to Diaga, Silence, Bio2 then Poison2. After which I do Paralyze and Slow and I rebuff as necessary. By the time I pull out my sword, they're at half health because they were probably running into my Ice Spikes.
I have upwards of 500 Def as /WAR(with Defender active and Protect 4), I eat Tav Tacos and I have -20% damage reduction in addition to Phalanx. So yeah, it's pretty hard to even take my Stoneskin off unless you get REALLY lucky. Or if you do some unnecessarily strong move.
Like I said, I hate DRKs and RNGs...
So he's spamming curing potions, and I'm reapplying Silence, and he's running into my shield with his face all the while I'm paying attention to the log to see what wears so that I can reapply and before I know it, he's dead.
And bitching in /sh.
Now hold on Internet. Let me get this straight. I'm a cheater for silencing a BLU in PvP?
[Quite literally, I'm sitting at my desk waiting for a response and the analog clock is ticking. I like the ambiance.]
So he ran in there, expecting me to just melee him, while he let lose with all the unholy abilities of Blue Magic, that can take down a VT at lvl 75 in about 35 seconds?
He must think RDMs melee or something. He must think that we have an A- in sword. He must've forgotten that RDMs are the masters at Enfeebling. I'm not suprised, because this is the guy that took double digits in his tries to beat Maat as a RDM, gave up and leveled THF instead, and when invited to a party in the Den of Rancor (mid 60s I believe) didn't have Teleport-Yhoat.
Needless to say, he has no idea how to do anything with RDM that doesn't involve doing a bad Refresh cycle, which he is suprisingly good at.
Is he serious? Fuck that, Silence is not only a legitament strategy, but it's part of my repetoir. I could have killed him 3 times as fast If I just nuked him with Blizzard 3, Thunder 3 and Blizzard 3 again.
If he expects me to not use silence and to make it a "Only melee match," then he should have offered to not use any of his offensive Blue Magic. As it was, he was spamming Frenetic Rip like it was going out of style.
He's a clown. Told me that I sucked, and I stopped caring.
The funniest part was when he said he would come back on THF and beat me.
Oh the humanity.
I apoligize, RDM community. It appears I am a farce. I shall hang up my hat, for it seems my cheating ways have disrespected the community at large.

So since everyone was wondering, the answer is: BLU are beatable.
Only by RDM tho. My NIN friend couldn't believe I beat him, because he's been raped by too many BLU. He was calling for nerfs and stuff, but a nerf isn't needed.
Just a RDM.
I think they should give RDMs a PvP only weapon called the Nerf-Bat, and we should go around Brenner wielding the powers of Justice.
Don't tell Grendal tho. I'm afraid he'll come at me as a RNG and give me a spanking I deserve. ; ;
