Best Sword/Dagger for RDM at 75

So I have been looking around, chopping and changing...thought Id get better opinions.

This EXCLUDES Joytoy, Enhancing and Justice Sword. I know where they stand, and sometime soon I will own them :p (oh, and Excalibur...)

So far I use:

Mensur Epee (use offhand + hidden latent)
Martial Anelace (main hand for TP Bonus)

Taking into account WS and DoT.

Without multi attack swords, is this the best combo?

Dagger:

Martial Anelace (main hand for TP Bonus)
HornetNeedle (offhand for speed)

Note 99% of the time I also have enspells going so I thought going for speed and TP would be the bet damage.

WHat do you all think?

Yeah I looked at that...nice dagger. I just cant seem to let go of the TP Bonus though...

And no JoyToy. Please. My heart bleeds when I hear or see one.

Someone should mention Blau Dolch too as a damn fine dagger, but it should probably go on the same list as Joyeuse, Justice and Enhancing.

I think for general /nin melee without Joytoy I would go with the Martial/Hornetneedle combo. For me meleeing as rdm/nin means whatever I'm fighting is really hard, so trying to bolster my weak physical damage is fighting a losing battle. May as well focus on cranking out as many enspell procs and 200+100 TP Spirits Within as I can. Mensur Epee is quite a nice sword though.

Mensur Epee, solo (47), is one of the highest damage swords. It loses to:

I'm not for sure, but I think the Martial Anelace bonus doesn't kick in if it's offhanded. As a main sword it's definitely quality, especially for WS' that have a high TP return like Savage Blade and Spirits Within. I haven't played with a Mensur Epee yet, but I'd like too.

As far as the kickass swords go, I've played around tons with both ESword and Joyeuse(and yes, it is ridiculously sweet to DW those), and I have to say ESword is the best out of the two. The TP gain is nice on the Joyeuse, but the base damage is rather low for an endgame sword. Although ESword only technically adds 5 to your Enspell damage, if you're using the corresponding Enspell for what game day it is(which you should be) you get the 10% boost rather often, for me it bumps it from 24 to 26 and kicks in alot, so the ESword is actually adding +7 to my Enspells often. This added to the higher base damage, and attack/acc bonus, my WS' consistently do much more damage on the ESword. I don't have a parser since I play on consoles, but my eyeball parser will tell you that ESword does better DoT.

On my wish list: Vorpal Sword. It's from Nyzul Isle Assault, it seems really hard to get and I haven't found a definite account of what it does yet, *but* word on the street is that it may allow you to use Vorpal Blade regardless of your subjob, and it has a pretty high base damage. Yes, please.

Do you have Evisceration?

If that's the case then Misericorde (or +1) would work better as your main weapon, specially since Evisceration dmg is as high (or higher) than Vorpal. So, a 100% Evisceration will pwn a 100% (+100%) Savage Blade from Martial every time, even more so for 2 100% Evisceration vs 1 200% (+100) Savage Blade.

And Enspell dmg will add more over time than the dmg difference between sword and dagger.

Or at least that's what I've found out, your mileage may vary.

I want Joytoy and ESword soooo bad....

and yes you are right, TP Bonus doesnt kick in unless its main hand.

I have played with Sword/Dagger combo but I dont really like it. It just doesnt seem like I dish out more damage, even if I WS more often. The offset of tha delay down just doesnt seem to cover the additional DoT Sword/Sword provides - maybe its a mind thing. Some proven stats would be nice if any of you are bored.

Blau...yes, I think that belongs in the "Wish list" set. Out of all of them JoyToy is prolly more obtainable than the rest, I just cant ever keep up the ToD and claim

Not even heard of Vorpal Sword (wiki in a sec) but if rumours are true, that will def be on my list also. I had so much fun subbing /WAR23 to use it when skillin up lol.

Mensur Epee just rules for soloing or duoing (even Trio).

I am also slowly trying to gather together a Savage Blade equip set for max MND and STR, but thats kinda low on my prioroty list.

Working on Evisceration now...wont be long.

I have seen another RDMs Evis in my ls and it consistently is...well....crap. I want it anyway, and skillin up dagger seems 10times faster than sword.

One day, Ill be able to sit down and take some numbers on paper to work out what is best for me. I have been soloing stuff a lot more now Im 75, and again priority being lower but still putting effort into making myself the perfect solo melee set.

I personally can't stand dagger on RDM. I only use it to skillup so that it's capped for COR and BRD pretty much. With the exception of soloing crazy shiat where you'll want a very low dmg/delay dagger so that you can crank out enspell damage without feeding TP. Otherwise I just don't see it being worth giving up the damage from a sword. Plus using a tiny dagger makes me feel like a nancy.

It's just a matter of what works best for the mob you are killing (Edit> and sub), I use both sword and dagger depending on the situation, and for weak mobs (except skeles) dagger is much more efficient.

But then again if you just wanna look cool then sword is the way to go, specially on elvaan since they look kinda you know when they are using a dagger.

I've never been impressed to death with Evisceration but I haven't worked with it a lot either. When I melee solo I use primarily +attack gear. Evisceration might be better for me if I threw on some more acc.

Holy crap! Last time I looked at Mensur Epee on Lakshmi it was like 1.5M! Now it's 150k! D: Well dang that's extremely tempting, but I wonder if Mensur/Joy would be better than Martial/Joy for Savage Blade ... Martial obviously wins for SW and Mensur for Vorpal ... guess it doesn't cost too much to buy it and try out out anymore.

Dagger looks ok on Elvaan I think. Sword/Dagger looks silly.

I wonder, on mobs like Avatars (15mins fight), when I hit for like 15-18 a shot on sword, and around the same in enspell (~17-18) whether I would have an easier time and be more efficient with HN and Beestinger hitting faster for 0 dmg and all enspell...?
