  • RDM Solo Ulli and Despot

    Quick question :p

On wiki it sayd Ulli and Despot can be soloed by 75 RDM - just wondering so far what it takes, straegies, things to be aware of, helpful/needed merits to beat these 2?

Not at all considering it right now, unless it is riduclously simple but I would like like to get a gauge on this?

Or is it referring to "Soloable by someone like Avesta that has a billion merits and a sack full of VE+1"?

I haven't done this myself but based on how normal parties kill this is will most likely be the standard "Kite and DoT attack" for both of these mobs.

Grav/Bind the monsters, Bio it / your DoTs of choice, run around in pretty circles until your enemy dies from DoT.

Ulli, it is perfectly possible to kite, though now not as needed - it was in the days of grab him if you can, and kite him round the porter. DoT and gravity work. Faust - takes a lot more to solo him. He has a mean streak. Not quite Avesta level, but close.

For Despot and Ulli the only things that would give you an edge is Int/enfeebling skill gear for making sure enfeebles stick, HQ staves would help in that regard as well. Mnd build for stoneskin wouldn't be a bad choice either.

When I see Rdms solo/duo it, they typically just gravity/dot it and nuke the rest of thier MP away before converting. Merit wise, I would think Convert timer, enfeebling skill, and perhaps Int. For staves, I'd recommend and Auster's and Aquilo's for Gravity/Bind.

I've also watched 2 RDMs duo Zip, pretty much same technique, but with bind in place of gravity (I don't think gravity sticks on him, or if it does, doesn't slow him down much). They dot'ed as well, but mainly the damage was coming from nukes. One was /whm, the other /nin. If enfeebles were resisted, the /nin one would tank for a second while trying to land again. In the course of the battle I would say maybe 4 binds were resisted or had really short durations.

One last note, bring something to throw. Despot, Ulli, and Zip all pop in magic aggro areas. The lamiabane or pebbles or something would be ideal. And as you're kiting be sure to only cast away from statues and such. Good luck.

Funniest thing I read in a while.

But ya, I agree with the other posters. Most of the time when you see a RDM solo a high level NM/HNM it is almost allways with the DoT+Kite method.

No Ifs Ands or Buts about it.

Wouldn't soloing Ulli be worthy of a GM call these days?

I don't see why anyone would GM call nowadays unless you're deliberately holding, though (and would be hard to make it stick). It's not like they can't still farm statues while they're waiting for you to finish, and a solo RDM is going to be hard pressed enough just staying alive without dealing damage; you can't keep up the whole kiting business forever no matter how good you are without losing claim or dealing substantial damage.

BTW.... A "sack full of VE+1" is just one of them. It's rare/ex

I was dealing in the fabled internet saracam.

RDMs can solo well, it just feels that slow at times.

                        I'll asume you meant sarcasm.

In which case you really need to skill up your (Sarcasm Skill). Here are some good tips for beginners:

                        1) It's very important choosing the right sub. I suggest /Murphie since it's been proven many times before that (Sarcasm Accuracy Bonus) and (Subtle Irony) do make a difference.

                        2) Skill up location is very important too. My suggestion is starting with threads that would normally annoy you and try to convert them into something enjoyable.

                        3) Reputation matters. If you have a reputation of being always dead serious (and grumpy) then your posts will always be taken seriously (get resisted) regardless of what you say. So you might end up getting into a fight even if you were just trying to be sarcastic and/or funny.

My suggestion for that would be to simply lighten up.

                        4) The most important thing of all: Have fun posting.

                        I hope this helps.
