I would get the Enfeebling Torque before I got the Elemental Torque. Enfeebling is much more important to us as RDMs, IMO.

Try to get yourself a Moldavite Earring if you can. Very good to macro in for nuking. Or to just wear all the time because it's a cool earring.

when you hit 72, definitely get the wise feet and gloves. The int and mnd boosts are unique to those slots and they're just overall nice pieces.

Spider torque is fine, you don't need a feeb torque unless you have money to spare.

And personally, I like the wise cap's 5 MACC better than the elite beret's enfeeb skill. It just seems to work better for me.

Oh and get an antivenom earring for resting/healing. +1 hmp is nice

He said Spider Torque, +7 Elemental Skill will go farther then +2 Enfeebling.
I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

              Re: Equip for lvl70 RDM

I definitely agree on the Elemental Torque. They're cheaper than Enfeebling Torques and leagues better (for a RDM) than a Philomath stole. Since RDM has a C+ (230) in Elemental, having an Enfeebling Torque will bump you almost all the way to a B- (240) and with The Pimp Hat, it puts you at 247 which is just a touch off of B. If you're having trouble landing an enfeeble (like Sleeping Imps or something), Wise Gear with its +Magic Accuracy will take you a lot farther than the extra two skill you get from the Enfeebling torque.

You're considered a "high-level" character, so you'll want to be focusing mostly on pieces that you'll be using permanently. Wise is not essential, but it helps out. Some sets you may wish to look into:

Errant/Mahatma (put Jet Seraweels in here, too): This set is great for doing spells that have effects based on your INT/MND like Elemental Enfeebles, Paralyze, and Slow.

Wise: +Magic Accuracy for landing spells on hard-to-hit targets and +Accuracy for hitting those high-level mobs. A great "general" Red Mage gear overall, but nothing fantastic.

Dusk and Scorpion Harness: A combination of pieces from the Dusk set as well as the inimitable Scorpion Harness is an excellent kit for times when RDM needs to put the smack down. Mix with Wise if you need additional accuracy. The Dusk Jerkin is easily forgettable when sitting next to a SH.

Warlock's Set [RDM AF/AF+1]: These pieces have hard-to-beat skill plusses, but you can probably ditch the hands and feet (mine are in storage).

Duelist's Set [RDM Relic/Relic+1]: All of these pieces have something to offer and the best part about them is that they have synergism with Warlock's to offer great specialized power when used in combination.

Blue Cotehardie: This little gem is relatively inexpensive and converts a whopping 40 HP > MP! It's hard to beat for its price for Convert.

Once you're in the 70's, your biggest concern will start to be inventory space. You can only hold 60 items, but you'll want to try to have a nice well-rounded set of equipment available.

For Shields, I like Tariqah. After all, RDM needs extra Accuracy whenever possible. We can make up for (some) lack of attack with our Enspells, but our B weapon skills make us rather flaky with stronger foes. Ice Shield is an exceptional defensive replacement for the Hard Shield you've been wearing forever. Numinous provides some stat bonuses, but isn't terribly nice overall. I sold mine.

With respect to Jewelry, you can go as nuts as you can afford, but remember the bonuses on jewelry are not exactly as stellar as with the larger armor pieces for special applications. Remember your limited inventory, and carry your jewelry accordingly. Loquacious Earring is rather pathetic, but does give a Fast Cast boost (-2% cast speed, -1% recast). It's basically a googaw and it's rather expensive to acquire. I would spend my ABCs on something else, but that's just me. I don't think the extra 2% speed will make enough difference (38% cast-at as opposed to 40% cast-at) to count in most situations. The choice between platinum rings and orichalcum rings (aka Elemental Rings) is basically a matter of taste. They both give the same "high" bonus, but the platinums don't carry penalties. The platinum rings are usually more expensive because the good ones are all HQ.

Oh, I missed the part where he said he had a Spider Torque. I agree, then, with Spider already in your possession get the Elemental Torque.

Ok, so ditch the Philomath Stone for an Elemental Torque.

I love the look of the Errant set, and its not exactly expensive either

Wise set, its only the hat and legs that offer anything decent for exp parties.

Duelists..../sigh I wont even go there lol.

                  When does MACC > +INT/MND?

                    Actually...thinking about it logically..

+MND or INT would increase the damage or proc rate...whearas MACC would help actually land it in the 1st place?

                      Re: Equip for lvl70 RDM

The question of Magic Accuracy versus Skill versus Stats has been discussed elsewhere (at length) in the Red Mage forum... Let me dig up a link...

MND & INT vs. Magic Accuracy

I macro in Wise where appropriate +skill armor is unavailable on "land-only" enfeebles like Sleep and Gravity. Many of the pieces have good offerings for both XP and other teams. The boots and body pieces are also very nice, and the gloves provide a MND+4 bonus that plays a great duo with Errant Cuffs' INT+5. Versus Greater Colibri in an XP pt, a RDM can contribute with admirable melee damage, properly geared and eating right, so don't write off your sword arm just yet. You won't be getting any 1000 damage WSs, granted, but faster is faster... In a pt that needs little healing, that has a BRD available, RDM's self-refresh and conversion can cover you in 95% of situations. You may occasionally need to sit in the event of a well-played Pecking Flurry. Since RDM almost never pulls hate in this type of party, the chances of you losing your food are slim to none.

There is only one piece of gear you need on your head for EXP parties. (Hint: its not the Wise Cap)

Other then that, Wise is a good replacement for those, shall we say less then awesome pieces of AF (Hands, feet, maybe legs if you want). At 73, once you cap your enfeebling, you'll find you don't need that +15 Enfeebling to land enfeebles on what you'll be EXP/Meriting on. You'll probably move on to keeping that Errant body on more after that.

What hasn't been mentioned, but you might want to look into is Assault gear. There are 2 sets that RDM can wear, one aimed at Magic jobs, the other to Melee.
                        Melee: http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/Pahluwan_Armor_Set
                        Magic: http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/Yigit_Armor_Set

I can't say anything about either since I don't have any of them, but it does seem that some of the Yigit pieces could take the place of some of the Wise pieces in EXP/Merit parties.

Incidentally, I'm just going to pretend the topic title is 70+ RDM Gear.

Yigit and Pahluwan are both very nice. Another piece I forgot about is the ubiquitous Vermillion Cloak for when you're not doing anything--which is not often during XP.
