Apocalypse Nigh Earrings, which one would you choose?

As topic, they are 4 wonderful earrings:

Ethereal earring: HP+15 att+5 eva+5 Convert 3% dmg to MP

Magnetic earring: MP+20 Conserve MP +5 Spell Int rate -8% MP recovered while healing +1

Hollow earring: dex+2 acc+3 rng acc+3 sword enhancement spell +3

Static earring: mnd+2 magic def. bonus +2, bonus damage added to Magic Burst

I am doing the fight this coming Sunday, but this is the one causing me headache XD. What is your choice as rdm? As I m lvling nin as well, so either Ethereal earring or Magnetic earring will kill me =P.

Looking from a Rdm perspective, I think it's pretty obvious you'll benefit the most from Magnetic.

Depending on other jobs you may level, or activities may do, any one of those would be viable.

If you prefer to solo, love your enspells, and woulden't mind a little extra accuracy. Hollow earring is for you.

If you're typically backlining in exp, spending most of your endgame activity as a rdm (meaning you are actually /healing a lot) and you didn't/are not going to merit your convert timer, this one's for you.

Static is great for MND whores, and those who have BLM as a second main, and love to magic burst.

And Even Stoic is good help, if you like to solo hard monster's or have aspirations of becoming a pld.

Personally, I consider myself a solo-duoist first and foremost, it's where I spend most of my time. I'm most likely gett the hollow when it comes my turn.

I like the concept of boosting my Enspell damage without having to use enhancing sword or staying at low hp.

Personally, I'm going for ethereal, but that's primarily because of my other jobs; as a RDM I would use it mainly for solo/duo/assault/organ farming/etc. and not in HNM/alliance situations. But as PLD I would wear it pretty much all the time.

I agree with Jei that magnetic offers the most to someone who is RDM only, but that doesn't describe you anyway.

Static seems weak unless the magic burst bonus is really big (and even then, magic bursts are increasingly rare) and hollow is just unimpressive imo. The acc isn't that different from Diabolos's and the +enspell damage isn't anything to get excited about.


Much like Divine Might or the PM rings, though, you need to consider not just the jobs you have now, but the jobs you are going to have. A choice that provides a moderate benefit to a job you're playing now may end up being a choice you regret when you realize you could have had a bigger benefit to a job you level later. (E.g. I chose Abyssal Earring before I leveled PLD much and before the reforms to the shield system made +Shield Skill so much better than it used to be. If I had it to choose again now I would take Knight's, but if I later go into BLU, then I might wish for Suppanomimi too...)

The other thing to consider is that any new earring means unequipping an old earring. The stats on ethereal look great for NIN compared to no earring at all, but if you already have suppa and brutal, I don't know if you have an ear free for ethereal anyway.

Static's Magic Burst bonus is equal to that of Sorcerer's Gloves, or about 5% bonus. It really is a BLM earring. If you really want MND on your ear, get a Geist or Harvest earring and save yourself the pain of regret later on :p.

Magnetic has a lot that is nice for RDM, MP, HMP, spell interrupt down and conserve MP. The MP is nice for convert, HMP for that rare chance you get to rest (rdm rest? lol), spell interrupt down is good for soloing, crowd control without having to give up another slot (like say you use a different body piece to solo). Conserve MP is really fickle without /BLM. With /BLM is does kick in a bit more often, its not something to write home about. Casting refresh for 10 MP every once and a while is kind of nice. Its also a great earring for the rest of the mage jobs if you ever plan on leveling those.

Ethereal is good if you know you're going to take damage, er that is is 34+ damage per hit. Taking 4 damage makes the 3% damage to MP moot, and since RDM solo/duo/etc is about avoiding damage... The attack/evasion is nice but way better for Melee than RDM. If you have the SLIGHTEST desire to level PLD consider this earring.

Hollow...no just no. Better Enspell, boost the crap out of your enhancing. Better Acc, get a Diabolos earring or eat cheep sushi.


As Karinya said, look at to what you want to level in the future. More mage jobs? Go Magnetic. More melee jobs/PLD? Go Ethereal.

I say you get the Magnetic earring for your rdm its the best for partys or if you want get Hollow for solo it depends on which you are more focused on.

Hm, I'm a selfish bastard, and kind of value my solo ability over my usefulness in party. I'll likely go with the Hollow earring, seeing as how there are tons of other gear opportunities to contribute as Cure and Haste whore to a group setting.

But when I'm alone, I want something that'll add to my fun. The Hollow earring fits the bill.

Intend on playing BLM soon, so Magnetic Earring ftw.

Though, I want to play PLD & RNG too, but I think magnetic is really the best overall.
