Iv beeen after the Moldy Earring for some time, but forogt about it in my raving search for Hornet Needle (which still hasnt dropped ; .

I have also camped and claimed the Dune Widow twice, no drop

Moldavite Earring is nice, but not really essential for exp partying. At least, not for someone who doesn't find nuking outside of MB's to be very beneficial for the party--and don't find many MB'ing parties anyway.

It's probably great for Maat fight, however, and quite decent for solo'ing.

Dune Widow was quite stingy to me and Yevna, though. Many claims and zero drop later, I caved and bought a Spider Torque. Very poor, now...

Well see thats the thing. There is a great sense of acheivement in killing an NM and getting a valuable drop, but then I have to ask myself, is it quicker to cut my losses and farm the gil to buy one?!

I assume you're referring to the Spider Torque, since I'm sure you know you can't buy a Moldy.

It really depends on you. If you prefer to win it from the mob directly, that's valid, and if you prefer to farm the gil and buy it from the AH with the proceeds, that is also completely valid. Spider Torque is about 350k on Bahamut right now, so if you think you can farm that up pretty quickly, it might be a better use of your time. But it really is entirely up to you.

350k? Its dropped a bit then - last time I looked, I coulda swore it went for more around the 400k mark.

Meanwhile the Enfeebling Torque has gone up in price. Which doesn't help me any since I have no intentions of selling mine, but it's still nice to know, I guess.

Farming the spider is pretty easy, as long as competition isn't that bad. Most of the time I had no competition for the Dune Widow. Actually the Spider Webs I got as drops from the NM would have let my buy the Torque, so I ended up making gil at the same time.

I noticed the same thing, Mhurron. Very little competition, and if you get webs, they do sell well.

Yeah, the NM is pretty easy. I might have another go before jacking it in, its just the drop rate on it - how long would it take me to farm/craft 350k vs running around trying to get drop.

The 3 times I was there (once I gave up before it even popped [1000 Needles killed me ><]) I was up against the same person, a /anon THF which is at least lvl73 (only going by highest lvl gear). I got claim other 2 times I was there, but no drop. Ended up with 5 webs though.

I went 1/11 on the drop on the Dune Widow, lost the claim maybe three times. I camped it sort of casually over a few days buy being there for a few pops then going off and doing something else and went back the next day.

I didn't kill place holders the whole time either, only when the window opened up after I knew the ToD.
