  • Red Mage AF

Ok, so far I have done AF1, and AF2 (boots).

I have started the quest for the Chapeau (pimp hat FTW) and also need all the 3 Coffer items.

I can complete this anytime now, and knowing that is driving me nuts as I want to do it all like...yesterday. I know I cant equip most of it yet...

I have decided to leave the Chapeau till last as that seems to be the hardest (2NM's) which leaves me with the Coffer key runs.

Would 1 Lvl75 be enough to help me farm these items? I looked up that the Skele's that drop the key are high 60's. Im thinking I need 2 really to be able to do it smoothly.

    Thanks

Just hang around in Jeuno/Whitegate and see if you can tag along on a skillup/coffer hunt party or make your own. People are always in need of skilling something and as rdm you can be of use with heals and hastes. Also the GC coffer is a pain to find, make sure you take friends with you to open the gates. Castle.O is pretty easy to get the coffer with the one exception being if it pops behind the big door at the top.

You will want at least two people to help you. Our LS has done many AF Key runs. While it is possible for certain level 75 characters to solo keys, it is dangerous especially in areas with Death-aggro undead. The Eldieme Necropolis is probably your worst one. Garlaige can be easily soloed with a Beastmaster albeit slowly. I suggest you take a couple people down there. They don't have to be 75th level, a solid party of 55-65 can do it, but we always have a 70-75 or two hanging around. Take a White Mage when you do Eldieme. They like to crush undead with their clubs anyway and they seldom get a chance to do melee. (Upper-level White Mages are formidable DDs against Undead and 95% of them enjoy playing the fighter when they can). We use WHM/NINs (dual maul) on occasion, but at least one member of your party should have Escape. It's a good skillup opportunity for mages who seldom get to fight.

The Guardian Statue is a pain in the butt. There's a thread in here somewhere from when I got mine. Take a look at it. A 75NIN/WAR can solo it with you as his healer, but it'll take quite a while. We took a 70MNK/NIN and it took him quite a while to pummel it to bits (and fists do bonus damage versus ceramic mobs). Best piece of advice from the thread: Fight the statue at the Banishing Gate with the melee(s) against the opposite wall and the mages against the gate itself. I know it's your hat, but for AoE reasons, it is best that you take {Back Line Job} for the Guardian Statue.

If it's in-game help you need, the topic belongs on server specific forum (Bahamut?) instead of here in the Red Mage forum.

You don't need two people. Just one who knows what they are doing is fine. I got my Castle Oz key with one other person (RDM/NIN), my Garlaige Key with one other person (NIN), and my Eldieme key with one other person (MNK).

That said, it's sometimes easier to get in there with a group.

edit: He was asking what he needed, not for direct help.

Eldieme can go wrong very quickly - blood aggro sucks. 2/3 people is good for this one. The rest are fairly straight forward. The two NMs for the hat are not the easiest - last time I fought Miser Murphy I discovered just how nasty his endrain can be.

I will do what I can to help, but if there is a skill up/coffer party shout, I would take it. Things are getting busy for me.

Well, it's not like you died when you fought MM or anything. Always complaining!

I swear people. You have to hold her hand through everything from a Tiny Mandragora to Kirin. It's a wonder she can dress herself.

If you never see me again, it's because she slapped me so hard I disappeared.

Oh yeah THAT was the noob who's hat I got!

I love him really. However, he needs to watch his back...

                    Re: Red Mage AF

My Miser Murphy Party was (overkill, I know): NIN, MNK, WHM, RDM (me).

Ninja tanks don't get drained and MNK+WHM make a powerful DD Combo with Banish III and Fists. Then we went and picked up a Fei'Yin Chest Key for the WHM.

I got lucky on my Garlaige key. There was a BST XPing off the bombs in the back room. He shouted Coffer Key {Do You Need It}. I said {Yes, please}. No muss, no fuss. We then took our 4 member death squad through the Banishing Gates popped a coffer, decimated the denizens and popped a second coffer.

I've died in The Eldieme Necropolis a couple of times farming keys. Our big MNK and our big NIN can solo keys, but I don't think it's the preferred method. Both have eaten floor a couple times trying to get keys with just one (or zero) people backing them up. If you are doing a duo, remember to stay way back (out of AoE range). I know you can hurt these monsters and you want to hone your skills, but what will happen is this:

The Tomb Mage begins casting Sleepga.
                    The Tomb Mage casts Sleepga.
                    Everybody's asleep...
                    Your melee friend is awake.
                    You are still asleep.
Your melee friend drops into the Red.
18 undead dudes attack from places you didn't even know they existed (blood aggro range increases inversely with remaining hit points).
                    Everybody dies.
                    Reraise impossible.
Home Point and eat the 2.4kxp.

If you get sleepga'ed and your friend can't wake you up, have them turn away from the monster instead in the hope that it will try to eat you and in the process wake you up (click off stoneskin if on).
