  • Endgame macro woes

I have looked for an answer to this question via search but turned up little, other than the obvious guides concerning macros.

I recently hit 75, and am finding a much wider selection of gear available. Before, when writing my macros, it was possible for me to pick five slots to swap out gear for each spell and write them into the macro for anything I would cast. This allowed me to keep all of my macros at a one button press. (which was helpful, since I already have four full sets, and use three of them consistently) Now however, I am looking at switching around more than five pieces of gear, for many of my spells.

My question is: does a method exist to squeeze all of these equip changes into one place? Am I missing something? Is it time to bite the bullet and create general "enfeebling," "nuking," "stat" type macros and pile the rest into the spells themselves for a two-button press on most of these?

    (An example, to be clear)

For Sleep, I would have: Warlocks Tabard, INT rings X2, Enf. torque, mahatma cuffs, wise boots +1, might even consider putting in Elite Beret. But then for nuking, I would want Errant body, INT ring x2, Ele. torque, Mahatma cuffs, wise boots +1, Warlocks Chapeau. And the similar pieces in either two would change for say, a paralyze or slow.

Sorry for length, thanks in advance.

    Re: Endgame macro woes

I use a macro for Enfeebling (INT), Enfeebling (MND), Nuking, and Convert. Any spell-specific things go into the actual spell macro, but the general gear works better when I compromise and focus on 6 slots (body, head, l.ring, legs, waist, feet). Your mileage may vary.

P.S. I use a Tamas Ring in r.ring slot, so I don't ever really swap that one out.

      Re: Endgame macro woes

All I can truthfully say is that I am a firm supporter of the horrendously broken Windower Macros.

But if it comes down to it, prioritize (ie, you can't use windower.)

In which case, as a Taru, I keep MND gear on (Errant Feet and Wise Hands) and I macro out other slots accordingly. Until I started using Windower Macros, I only had 1 INT ring and 1 MND ring, because that's all my macros would allow. Some spells have me using the Elite Beret while others have me using the Chapeau.

For instance, my Paralyze macro (back then)

      /ma "Paralyze" <stnpc>
      /equip main "Ice Staff"
      /equip neck "Enfeebling Torque"
      /equip head "Elite Beret"
      /equip body "Errant Hpl."
      /equip l.ring "Sapphire Ring"

The real limiting factor is that you can only swap 5 pieces of gear, so you'll have to prioritize... I got decent results, but now I'm addicted to swapping out anywhere from 8-12 pieces at a time, so it's real tough to go back to the old days.

Oh, and get rid of the Wise set while you can still make money off it. It's highly worthless with the exception of the hands and the feet, and even those are situational. The pants look cool, but that's about it...

About how to use the Windower Macros, I'd imagine. :/ I wish we wouldn't advertise them as an option.

I do the same thing that Icemage does. I just have specific gear swap macros for my various job functions.

            Re: Endgame macro woes

For about two years I was successful as a RDM using only the macro slots that SE allowed. Heck, I don't want to toot my own horn, but I was pretty damned good.

Anyway. It's possible to be efficient no matter which method you use, but since I am on PC now, I am simply advocating my method. (In fact, I distinctively remember myself chastising RDMs who used the Windower Macros some time ago. But once I started using them, I began to see how they BLOW the game open.)

            Simple Guide:
Everything goes into the Windower(ver.)\scripts directory

The first thing you need to do is create the macro in the first place. This is as easy as opening Notepad and typing. Here is what a few simple command lines look like:
            input /equip head "Walahra Turban"
            input /equip body "Narasimha's Vest"
            input /equip hands "Warlock's Gloves"
            input /equip legs "Vendor's Slops"
            input /equip feet "Heroic Boots"

Save the file and give it a decent name (For instance, those lines are from my RDM-Tank.txt file)

In the actual macro in FFXI, using your brand new Windower macro is as simple as typing in: /console exec RDM-Tank.txt

Viola. Windower Macros in 5 minutes.
