  • Capping Healing Skill - Non-undead mobs works?

    Been trying to work on capping healing skill on RDM. @103 right now @LV55 and I'm missing like, 30-40 points or something.

    Was readin around and hearing that you could cast Cures on non-undead mobs, like anything EM or higher, and it would skill up. But then, I've also been reading that recently, the ability to do this has suddenly dissappeared and people aren't able to do it anymore.

    Just wondered if anyone knew anything official. I remember being able to work on healing skill in like coffer key and skill up pts and casting on undead and that proving a really effective way to try to cap healing skill. Otherwise, just in pt, the gains are ineffectually slow.

    I do know casting like -na spells helps to raise it, but still not very much.

    I heard that was patched so you can't do it anymore.

      It doesn't work anymore. You have to use it on yourself, other players, or undead monsters. Unless, of course, it's like that Bio/Dia craziness where SE "fixes" it and then "unfixes" it in a later patch. This effect was never specified in the patch notes, but it ceased to work after the big December update of 2006.

        I suck. The other night I was trying to level healing skill on lessers and kept thinking; "I should be getting a skill point any spell now". I can only imagine the laughter by other ppl walking by...

          Healing skill is disgustingly easy to cap once you get near level 75. Join a King Ranperre's Tomb party and just spam Cure I on the undead enemies for a while. Your healing skill will cap so fast your head will spin.

          Until then, Healing skill doesn't really matter that much. It's quite easy to hit the soft cap on cure spells in any case even far below the skill cap.

            White Mages, especially Elvaan with their high MND and Galka with their very low mp pools, love Cure V because of it's efficiency and lack of cap. Our LS WHMs (who are Elvaan) kept capped or very nearly capped on Healing Skill post-Cure V. Cure V always goes up and it never gives more hate than Cure III. I think we calculated the "efficiency cutoff" at something like 608 HP healed to be as efficient as a Cure IV based on MP/HP ratio alone.

              I don't even use Cure IV anymore on my White Mage. It's so inefficient it drives me nuts.

                Hmm. How about:

                - Paladin curing himself while tanking.
                - Red Mage soloing difficult monster or in situations where taking hits from enemies is very likely, like Dynamis.

                Wouldn't capped or near capped Healing Magic be helpful?

                  My Healing magic has been 5 points away from cap for like a year now, and I've just given up. It only seems to go up at the most random times....

                  I'm hoping that by raising PLD, I'll be able to cap Parry, Shield, Healing and Divine...

                    Meh, just go to an Undead Swarm besieged and spam curing nukes on the undead.

                    I got all 5 levels I needed as a PLD on a single besieged (and had at least half the event left to spare).

                      I'm not capped, but all my cures are and have been so for some time. I don't even bother advancing healing skill as a special activity. I'm sure that were I using curative magic against undead that my healing skill would somehow come into play, but I don't, in general, waste my mp on such activities as a RDM because it is quite inefficient compared to say debuffing and meleeing it. A Bind here or there gets me enough wiggle room to get out of the way to let a recast timer come up or cast some essential buff that keeps getting interrupted.

                          I capped both my healing and divine in undead swarm besieged, like Raydeus said. Not that there's really much benefit to either as a rdm ... I just hate seeing skill levels that aren't blue.

                          Parrying ... blah. Even training up a huge number of chigoe or mourioche it's sooo painfully slow and boring. And yet, if I don't give it my full attention a buff will drop and I die.

                            Not so you'd notice, no.

                            The spell interruption resistance of higher magic skills doesn't seem to help at all when you're hit by enemies that are near or above your level. Even with max Healing Magic on WHM with a bunch of +Healing Magic gear, I still cannot reasonably expect to complete a Cure III if an attack hits me mid-cast. Only if the enemies are EP or lower does it really seem to pay off. Against enemies that are higher level than you, if your timing sucks, you're going to get interrupted if you take even 1 point of damage.

                            Against enemies in Dynamis, again, they're all at or above your level. If your spell timing sucks, you're going to be interrupted, regardless of how much skill you have.
