  • New Avesta solo - Cactrot Rapido

So Avesta posted a new solo vid yesterday, this time vs Cactrot Rapido. I betcha the method used is the same as for Big Bomb, straight tank with utsusemi with ceremonial dagger and DoTs, but I'd still like to see the video.

Anyone know where to get the file? My usual filefront source doesn't have it, and I'd probably sooner be struck by lightning than get a download slot on Avesta's site.

It does 0 melee damage + whatever enspell does, so it doesn't give the mob any TP to use 10,000 needles or whatever nasty move the mob in question has.

        What does that NM drop?

            Arete Del Sol
            Level: 71

            • Enhances Resist Bind Effect
            • Enhances Resist Gravity Effect
The resist effects on the earring are reportedly pretty potent. Not a bad thing to have in Ballista I guess. I'm pretty sure I've seen Avesta using the bow when meleeing for damage for the +1 str.

Re: New Avesta solo - Cactrot Rapido

              I wanna see this o_O

I've heard of this guy being soloed by straight tanking it with /NIN, -dmg% gear including Earth Staff, using enfeebles because it's a MNK and it hits rather fast, eating Wizard Cookies and earrings for Plantoid Killer effect, using Poison to take its HP down to 70% or so, and Chainspell nuking the rest of it before he gets to use a TP move. I hear he actually doesn't have all that much HP, it's just that one devastating attack that puts him under HNM status.

The priority is making sure he never hits you for damage in the process, because if he gets enough TP for a move and does Needles, it's likely all over for you, 1k or 10k.

Fighting during the day is probably also a good idea, due to the fact it can pick Photosynthesis as its TP move. (It cannot use it during the night)

That will be fun to watch as WS 10,000 needles is a must kill, ceremonial dagger is the way to go ^^)b. Cant wait to download the movie =P, hope that it will turn up in filefront really soon.

That has to be the way he has done it - 2 rdm have duoed Cactrot on my server using that method, so its not a huge step up to solo it.

                        Finished viewing the video.

So, he went for (almost - he did finish Cactrot with Bliz III) pure DoT and damage mitagation eh? I wonder how many stacks of shihei did he burned through in this fight.

It also nice to learn that normal Sabotenders don't link with Cactrot (one just strolled by, watched the fight, and strolled off).

T'is an awesome fight. Mind if I link this to the other forum?

paralyze 1 procs amazingly often... I wonder if paralyze 2 is even a good spell to have in this situation. The MP it uses is really high and wears off fast -.-

                          Extremely patient and concentrate...

No, you're right Jei. Paralyze I is more than sufficient. Paralyze II, IMHO, is more of a "for large group/parties" kind of a setting. Namely, group take downs of Wyrms, Bosses and that sort of things.

In fact, let me expound on this a bit. Basically it boils down to how well your first set of enfeebling worked on the normal NMs. Cactrot Rapido, while difficult in nature, is not considered an HNM the way Nidhogg is. It's just a "normal" NM that's fun and challenging to take down, but presumably (as Avesta has shown) can be taken solo. Avesta just uses his brains more than the average players, but I do not think it is possible to take down any kind of boss that has too much HP and has too much unpredictable moves and who hits so hard that in one "normal" shot would bring a RDM down to their knees if they were careless.
