IfritnoTiazura, your post couldn't be truer. I'll keep an open mind and my options as open as possible.

I'll see what works and what doesn't, do some comparisons, train more jobs as nessacary, and overall, see what my path will be as I unfold it.

i remember when i started FFXI i wanted to be a BRD

1 75 job and my 2nd at 66 and i dont even have BRD unlocked...

my 75 job is RDM, accordingly i use the subs of WHM,BLM,NIN,DRK thats about it. Every time i see a RDM melee in exp i cringe, its almost impossible to balance your MP conservation with being unable to rest AND keeping all of RDM duties active(slow, para, blind, refresh mages, haste melee, curing, sleep link).

its hard to make assumptions about a game you never played, like with me, after BRD i wanted to do blm to 75... it sits comfortably at 38. If you want to take RDM to the best you can be, sub blm or whm. If you dont really care about a bad reputation sub rdm/pup for all i care, but pld isnt the sub job that provides RDM with the utilities that makes it a "Jack-of-all-trades". Please never exp like that.

LoL, sixth graders. It's funny because they haven't entered puberty yet. For the sake of argument, I'll do RDM/PLD in exp (again!! LMAOLOLLERSKATES) just for the sake of it.

Heh, I'm glad I had a positive coversation on a positive forum.

Man, I wonder how long until I start this game. . .my bro is having HUGE troubles getting it to work on his computer. You all remember back when you first went to Play Final Fantasy XI on the PlayOnline browser? and it had to do, like, a billion updates onto your computer? How it first checks, then downloads, and finally installs? Well, before it was even done with 10% with the checking step, it gave me a:

"POL-0250

No response from server. Please try again later or check networking devices such as cables and router or network settings."

I have a big computer guy around, and even HE can't figure out what to do; he claims to have tried everything.

Can somebody from this great community help my brother out?

ouch that's not good. It's doing that everytime? You are able to connect to POL tho hopefully it's just some random timeout thing.

Did you buy the DVD collection set? It includes quite up to date patches with it compare to the original CD 3 years ago. The new one that's coming out next month probably will help cut down the download time by a lot too.

You should check your computer's settings for firewalls and such. For example, I'm using ZoneAlarm and it's set to ask me if I want to allow a progam permission to connect to some server. Or allow a server to connect to my system. And you get options like, "Yes, No, Block"

And if you're not using broadband, it'll take you a while to download those updates. At least 8 hours on dial-up. So I've heard anyway. For me on a cable connection, 3hours max for all the updates.

Although, I often ran into a "network error" message one time too many. But what I did was to continuously hammer the download attempt. Meaning, I just kept at it. Update, network error, update, network error. It got frustrating, but eventually it got done.

- BLU/NIN is a really good tank in the Level 24-40 range. After that, the ability to hold hate fades since they can't get the attention of enemies without spending lots of MP.

Eh? No, it's quite possible. In fact, BLU/WAR. I think I already posted my own experience on this a while back on the BLU forums.

MP is retardedly easy to obtain, provided you have me (RDM) and a COR who knows what she is doing (A friend of the BLU)

To me, this is the optimal flow:

-Pulling chains on minimum 30-40% MP and consistently doing this.
-Being efficient so that you reduce risk but increase rewards.
-Not being afraid to take certain risks.

Pulled in 7K/hr, BLU/WAR tanking, BLU/NIN offtank. No SATA. Had a BLM even.


Note: I'm sure BLU/NIN is fine with SATA.

BTW, I'm a RDM54 and PLD48--I believe I have a firm grasp of both jobs' abilities--yet, I do not see much value in RDM/PLD. I say that, even though I'm one of those weirdos who like non-standard job combinations. (DRG/BRD in Valkrum Dunes, SAM/RNG in Qufim Island, DRK/WHM in Yuhtunga Jungle, etc.)

RDM/PLD is usable, just not optimal--and, far from being generally useful.

WTH is wrong with SAM/RNG? I'm one myself and will take it to 75.

I had a SAM/RNG in my party once in Crawler's Nest while I was on my thief.

I would out damage him everytime he tried. It was sad. I was very impressed with my Thief then. I miss doing dagger WS's. I think I'm going to go level Dagger for my Summoner. (Triple Dagger ftw)

We've seen what people think of RDM/PLD and BLU/NIN, but what do you all think of SMN/SAM???

BTW, there is NO WAY that I'D ever do it, but I just thought of it in a random moment, and while we're discussing wierdo combos, I thought I'd being it up.

SMN/SAM would be about as awful as possible. There is virtually no merit to that combo.
