So it's basicly opposite of company sword? Up to 47 when Solo? Wow.

I thought the hidden effect of company sword was disproven.
At any rate, even if it has no hidden effect it's still a heck of a nice sword if you don't have Joyeuse. Same delay as Verdun, higher damage. You only lose out on the piercing type.
For a starting RDM sword is better, but after lvl 50 you should lvl Dagger too, both weapons work great depending on the sub you are using and the type of mob you are fighting.
For instance, a dagger like Hornetneedle will destroy Elementals, where sword is too weak against them since the Enspell does most of the damage, and Energy Steal/Drain will give you a good amount of extra mp.
For mobs that are strong against piercing damage (like some undead) sword is better.
So it really depends on what you are fighting, if you limit yourself to only one kind of weapon you'll be only half as good as you can be as a RDM.
Your best bet is to carry a good dagger and a good slashing sword (since dagger is better than a rapier most of the times).

We don't have staff skill by the way. We do have club skill.

Both blm and whm have staff skill though, so we can level it up to the 37 cap and have at least some skill when subbing those jobs, which is most of the time. I've thought about doing it but ... nah. Besides, having somewhat leveled staff skill means I might actually land a hit on a general when I get charmed in besieged.
Hmm, I can't find it and I'm not sure where I read it. After looking into it, you should disregard that comment, since it says on the wiki:
Hidden Effect activated when in a party. Damage increases by 2 for every member in the party (excluding sword wielder). There must be at least 4 members in the party.
and this test I think I remember that showed no difference only used two people.
If you like the Sword aspects of RDM, you may also consider levelling BLU for a sub as BLU is afforded a greater array of Weaponskills, adding Savage Blade, Vorpal Blade, Seraph Blade, and Red Lotus Blade to your arsenal.
You sir are so very wrong. RDM does not need any subjob to use Savage Blade. That's because we're so good.
