  • What is the role of RDm in Dynamis?

    Hey guys,
I've just entered the Dynamis seen, and need some advice on how I should be playing, and where I should be standing. When I went in, I anticipated that I would act as Refresher/ healer/back up mob sleeper to the Blm's, but I was confused about the sleeping part. I noticed some RDM's did not sleep at all, and on the flip side there was one in particlar running around away from his party, following the puller, who proceeded to sleep every mob pulled. I thought it wise to stay near my party in case things got ugly (I was the only mage) and to sleep only when a mass of mobs ran by us. This seemed to be working fine, until someone sugested that I go and stand near the centre of action and sleep with the Blm's, running back to my party only if someone needed healing. Bah...confusion! If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know what I should be doing! Oh, and that brings me to one more question...to cast sleepaga, or not to cast sleepaga?

Can't speak for your shell, but my dynamis shell on Seraph, we have RDMs as primary sleepers, to free up BLMs to nuke more and kill faster.

You have a chance to notice any loss in effectiveness by your BLM's in Dynamis?

A RDM in Dynamis is primarily a sleeper, but Stun is very important too (since we have Fast Cast, Haste and Chainspell) debuffer/refresher/support healer etc. etc. etc are also part of the job description.

In my case I always go /DRK, but /BLM and Sleepga is a good thing to have for emergencies. And since you can overwrite Sleepga (with Sleep II) it can be a good tool for gaining time while mobs get Sleep II on (specially if you get a nasty link).

I've always gone as rdm/blm. My ls likes to sleega everything, so I'm primarily there to sleep and refresh and cure on the side.

I could see rdm/drk being extremely useful, especially because everyone goes rdm/blm so sleepga is usually covered, but I don't have drk lvled (or even unlocked )

In my old Dynamis LS Red Mages were there to sleep and stun, they didn't heal much unless they needed to Chainspell Raise, so most Summoners back up healed the melee.

            Sleep is very useful.

Re: What is the role of RDm in Dynamis?

For me it depends which party I'm in. If I'm in the statue party then I mainly haste the NIN(s), refresh the BLMs, and sleep and silence pets / avatars.

If I'm in a tank / DD party then its refreshing the mages / PLDs / DRKs. Cure where needed, often I could be othe only mage in a DD party. Haste DDers. Occasional defuffs as time permits.

In my Dynamis RDMs and BRDs do most the sleeping required with BLMs helping if sleepga II is needed because of a large number of mobs or if noone else is nearby to sleep an avatar. Most of our mobs are kited until they're needed though, we don't sleep large numbers of mobs unless we really need to.

Some debuffs are really needed or help greatly, such as Gravity on MNK mobs so they can be kited during 100 fists, the occasional stun can help out too.

We'd make our BLMs do stun duty on MNKs/NINs, only had the RDMs go /DRK on DL kills.

And haven't seen a difference in nukes yet, but we have not gone back to Xarca or glacier for clear since the update.

Re: What is the role of RDm in Dynamis?

I was just in Dynamis-Xarcabard last night. We took down Dynamis Lord and the trigger NM for Aegis. Didn't notice any significant drop-off in damage from nukes; if there's a BLM nerf, we certainly didn't see much evidence of it.

RDMs usually are on Refresh duty primarily with a dash of backup heals and/or Sleepga. We usually don't bring more than one or two RDM/DRK except for Xarcabard where pretty much all our RDMs are /DRK for Stun.

P.S. Chainspell Raise? You've got to be kidding me. This is what Raise II Rods are for, Hamlet!

Re: What is the role of RDm in Dynamis?

I'm mainly casting refreshes, (though rarely a full mage pt) sometimes ninjas will ask for hastes, sleepga and sleep2, silence, and when I get bored on the last mob or so, paralyze and nukes.

I noticed it fighting Diabolos the other day. 3 Aero II's did 100 damage, then 80, then 72. Although interestingly when I switched to Fire II after that the damage was much higher, >170, so it may be element dependant. On the second (and successful) attempt I switch more often and didn't notice any problems.

unfortunately it depends on your linkshell, so it's hard to give you a good answer. basically, a rdm in dynamis does whatever no one else is doing, be it sleeping, stunning, curing, hasting, raising etc.

just use a reraise item and watch to see what looks like it needs doing rly.

In my Linkshell, we have RDMs do the following (importance depending on which party you're in):

Refresh (PLD / BLM / WHM primarily)
Sleepga (Usually BLM lead off with Sleepga II, and after that RDMs keep the mobs asleep with Sleep II / Sleepga)
Nuking (Timed nuking: BLM cast on one Vanadiel minute, the RDMs go two seconds after)
Emergency Healing (Don't do this a whole lot... we have enough WHMs so that the tanks are always healed up)

And of course the ever popular Chainspell + Stun.

I've only done one Dynamis so far, and I was in the "main tank" party. I had Ls Leader (PLD), THF, SAM, MNK, a WHM, and me. All I did was Refresh, Haste, and help the WHM keep the PLD's HP up with out pulling hate. Near the end I stepped in to Sleepga since all the BLMs got a little excited, and walked into a full party wipe. So I had to keep things at bay for a while. I think I nuked once the entire time, but for the most part I was stretching MP out as far as I could with Refreshing, Hasting, and back up Healing.
