  • Has anyone here soloed an assault jerkin?

If you have, any tips? I went to try it out the other day, just really to see of Ose was up, aggroed a cat and got paraed to death. I had no idea their para move was THAT BAD.

I'm planning on going with a few stacks of remedies next time, but any tips as far as the fight itself. Should I bring some ethers? Is there a good time to try it (like, in the morning or something?)

Basically, everything I do is built towards the ultimate goal of being a good melee soloer. Even if melee soloing is pretty worthless most of the time compared to sleep/nuking, I still want to do it. I've been lvling up dagger skill recently because of the dmg boosts to daggers and I hear evisceration is really good now. Assault Jerkin seems like the best melee body piece in the game for rdm.

    edit: this is Hamlet btw.
Hey! You! I'm gonna get your gils!

Go as RDM/WHM, he sleeps really easy. Don't look him in the eyes, and just sleep and nuke him keeping him at a distance using Bind and Gravity. Take your time. If you're not dead set on just soloing him take a NIN friend and he's absolute cake.

How many HP does he have? Do you see a lot of resists from nukes as a RDM75?

Depending on the answers to those questions you might be able to cut down on the sleep/bind required by chainspell nuking him... it's not like he's going to pop again in less than 2 hours anyway.

If he has a ton of HP you'd have to play it like Maat though, wear him down with some nuke/sleep/nuke/bind and rest/use ethers before you have him far enough to chainspell nuke the rest of the way.

For anyone who *has* the assault jerkin, soloed or otherwise: how does it compare to Cardinal/Narasimha for soloing? Do you do a lot more damage with it?

Remedies won't be any more useful than Paralyna would be, they can still get eaten up by paralysis just as spells can.

I hope you're not meleeing the Toramas/Ose. They're really a lot easier with sleepnuke.

Also note that while facing away will prevent Chaotic Eye (silence) from working, it will not protect you from Blaster (paralyze), or obviously his Enparalyze attacks. Keep Barblizzard and Barparalyze up at all times.

Ethers are not necessary, Ose sleeps like a baby and doesn't build resistance (although he does to Gravity). It's easy to get resting ticks in.

I read somewhere else that the casting time on parylana was more than the use of remedy, but this could be just bs.

I went more as a scouting trip and got agroed by a cat. Fight went great until he blastered me 3 times.

          Thanks for the tips, all.

Paralyna is already extremely quick. >_>

But, if you care to bust out 10k or whatever they are at for each Remedy, I guess that's fine. Just remember that even if your Remedy gets "paralyzed" you'll still lose it.

Yeah, I know. The one guy I read doing it said the nin shadows were really useful and that parlyana was too slow to be reliable enough to depend on. I guess at least the 2nd part is bs.

So, what about camping conditions. Is he camped often? Did you have trouble killing the placeholders for him? Any info at all is appreciated.

Re: Has anyone here soloed an assault jerkin?

What I usually did was come /WHM and let the local EXP parties take care of the PHs for me, I would help with Paralyna and Silena duty (helps keep my reflexes sharp), and in return they would let me know if Ose popped. Since I usually end up soloing Ose in that same area (the passage leading west from Ose's room) where the EXP party is usually at, it's a good way to build the comfort levels between the two parties so they aren't all like "omfg go away D:" when you try to fight Ose near them.

While I COULD solo the PHs via sleepnuke (they are basically the same thing as Ose, only about...1/2 to 1/3 as much HP, and no Enparalyze on their attacks), I felt bad about taking the EXP parties' mobs.

Utsusemi can be useful, because Ose moves fast and he is likely to at least take one swing at you inbetween nuke rounds unless you have Gravity on him, and you cannot keep Gravity on him constantly due to his increasing resistance. With Barblizzard and Barparalyze up though, the Enparalyze rarely procs.

You could probably dispel off the en-spell, unless Ose has perma en-spell on.

I do know that the Toramas are just nasty even for a 72 NIN. I was watching some 72 NIN fighting toramas and a 75 BLM was PL that person >.> Anyway, I'm not sure what this was about (No, they were not RMT) but the NIN would get in trouble quickly whenever she got paralyzed and then would take a lot of damage quickly.

Imagine what would happen to a RDM w/o buffs up.
