Anybody know of / heard of good mobs to fight for parry-ups? If I understand correctly, for skills like Parry/Shield/Guard you doesn't have to fight a mob for exp, you just have to tank.

I know RDM doesn't get crazy amazing Parry skill, but I'm a little OCD for capping skills at the moment and would like to ungimp mine a bit.

I'm RDM70, and have found soloing DC/EP Lesser Colibri's to give some skill, and I can take down Goblin Hunters/Bouncers in Yhoat no problem but only get 1 skill up per 2 or 3 hours.

Please advise, if you have any ideas.

Also, try fighting Chigoe. Fast attacking, EP-- to lv. 75, easy to kill. Shouldnt be a problem for rdm in a defensive setup.

Try coffer mobs too. I know that SSG is great for them. Even onions in the Tree are good. Just wear a lot of +AGI gear (so i hear) and all the -EVA gear u can find.

That is interesting. But I don't have any of that gear or leveled WAR sub. :\ Interesting though. From the posts on that site, it sounds like I can't just rely on EP/TW mobs to take parrying up to cap, at a certain point weak mobs stop giving skill.

Chigoes (the ones in Caedvara Mire) con Tough to me, so I don't know if that would really work.

Nothing beats Chigoes. I've never really taken the time to level Shield or Parry skill, and went from 102 Shield and 39 Parry to 120 Shield and 51 Parry in less than 2 hours at RDM72.

Phalanx + Stoneskin + Aquaveil should let you easily survive one. At level 75, with a Jelly Ring and Cheviot Cape and maybe a Genbu's Shield you can probably survive three Chigoes simultaneously.

I wouldn't try more than one at a time at RDM70, though.

              Re: Skill ups: Parrying

From what I understand, Parry is checked first before evasion. My only problem is, as a NIN, my evasion was always capped before any parry would go off. Stinking Ninja skills lol.

But, +AGI stuff is easy to come by and cheap too. Those lvl 14 rings that have them on are pretty cheap, really any +AGI is cheap since it is not heavily wanted. -EVA should not be too tough to come by, not sure of may pieces though either, other than O Kote, Hauby, things like that. SO, I guess -eva is hard to come by w/o spending your money and your neighbors in the process.

Parrying definitely comes after Evasion. Unless something has changed recently, I believe the defensive checks are, in order from first to last:

                1. Third Eye
                2. Evasion
                3. Blink/Utsusemi/Aerial Armor
                4. Parry
                5. Counter
                6. Guard / Shield

I thought for melee attacks, Parrying is checked before Utsusemi? I could've sworn most of my parrying skill came from leveling NIN. (Although, using positive sounding words like "most of" seems a bit ... wrong, given how "fast" it leveled.)

I fight Chigoes because they spawn from Sheep when they WS. So how do I fight them? Kill the sheep and keep them alive?

Ah well. Any WS instant kills them, but you don't get EXP.

With my EXP ring, I get about 90 exp from the sheep and 58 from each Chigoe.

With Cheviot Cape, Jelly Ring, Genbu and Phalanx I can straight tank em without Stoneskin.

All kinds of interesting, thanks everyone for the info. I loaded up my THF with +AGI and found some -evasion (silver level AGI rings, spike earring with drone earring) and the rest of my gear minus my travelers cloak (replaced with a raptor mantle to get rid of the +eva). I probably should get more -evasion considering the job bonuses THF gets, but I'll see how my mileage varies first.

This weekend I'll try to boost up parrying a little against ep goblins. I'll go after chigs some time, but right now I need to Steal some mythril so I can make sollerets and level gold smithing (using the greaves I make skilling up smithing... I'm such a cheap bastard).

Hey Tracker what lvl is your parry by the way? at lvl 70 Rdm parrying skill caps at 190 (I'm lvl 175 atm so I still get skillups from lvl 65ish mobs)

So unless your skill is over 150 it might be easier and safer to skill up as Rdm than as a thf.
