"Not friggin worth it" is my opinion of a lot of the stuff he does (DoT/death soloing Dyanmis NMs? wtf?) but it's still impressive.
Cocoon is good, but I'm surprised he subbed it just for that spell seeing how he didn't get hit all that much. I guess when Aspir can't be used and Drain would be a waste, Cocoon+Conserve MP makes blu better. Still, not pld for extra defense and Auto-Refresh? Maybe he doesn't have it leveled.
how is this "not worth it"? what the hell else do you do when you've done basically everything there is to do? He's done many many things that no one else in ffxi has ever done...

Because he probably didn't know how well it was going to go. Weighing out his options, he might've been generous in giving Chary the benefit of doubt and expecting to get hit a lot of times. Thus, needing a way to curb the damage received. Subbing PLD isn't going to do you a world of good if Chary starts to hit you like a truck with pimped accuracy.
I trust Avesta has considered many options and I believe Charby has always been in his mind since ppl keep saying that it cannot be soloed.
The key for success is to survive Charby's multiple hits which can virtually kill a player 6 times in one round, so shadows from sub /nin are not enough for the run. But with /blu, defensive food, stoneskin and multiple damage reducing gears, then a rdm may be able to survive Charby's notorious multiple hits. Even Charby did not use them in Avesta's video (I have difficulties downloading it as well), it does not mean we run up to him and test our luck on Charby >.< . If u note Avesta's every fight, even intended KOed in the middle of the fight, is meticulously pre-meditated and calculated.
Hi everyone! This is my first post here. I'm a refugee from Alla after it was bought out by IGE last week. 75 RDM from Gilgamesh (I'll fill out all that fun user info and make a sig soon ^^).
I heard a rumor that if the four winds from the other gods are thrown in a certain order, the Regen effect is dispelled. I don't recall where, and it's probably BS, but it's a thought.
I actually posted on the main page on Alla about this about last week, but was laughed at. This is in fact true. Have your Rangers level their throwing skill so that they won't miss, and then use Unlimited Shot so that the winds aren't lost. I forget the order you're supposed to throw them in (I can find out for those who want to test this, I understand you might be skeptical).
This will completely dispel Kirin's regen. However, Kirin's regen can start again, so you may need to repeat this as necessary. Doing this cuts 30-40 minutes off of the battle since you no longer have to do damage simply to counter the regen.
I'm surprised how many people refuse to believe this or even try it. With Unlimited Shot, you have nothing to lose.
In a similar vein, I'm convinced that there still similar way to defeat AV that hasn't been discovered yet that is similar to the above method. In both RotZ and CoP, SE was big on literally handing us the means to weaken Bosses as drops from mobs encountered right before engaging the bosses themselves. Anima in Promyvion...Yellow Liquid on the Mammets (ok these drop from the Mammets themselves)...Winds from the four lesser gods to use on Kirin. SE has most likely already given us the tools needed to defeat AV from the Jailers (weapons, torques)...we just haven't figured out the way to properly use them yet.
I'd be interested to know how he doesn't get resisted later on in fights. He must have some insane enfeebling gear to consistently land bind on notorious monsters.
