Well, I didn't see the benefits of /BRD until my RDM was already 75, and since my BRD is still only 33, I'm not ready to bring it to a merit pt yet (in fact, I haven't done any merits in a while because I'm trying to level BRD)...
But I did bring it to Sacrarium last week when my PM static went there for 4-3, and it seemed to work quite well there. 50 cap is just right for subbing Ballad and I was able to provide 4 MP/3 sec to myself, the WHM and two BLMs, which was pretty nice. (We had 8 or 9 people, and reorganized parties to get as many MP users as possible in mine.) Unfortunately the area was too cramped to get a separate song on melees, but they didn't really seem to need it. Since it's also too low for Dark Staffs, missing out on /heal time (even more than usual for RDM!) wasn't that big a deal.
I'm not sure that it was really better than if the WHM had subbed BRD and I had subbed WHM, though. As compelling as RDM/BRD is in some situations, I think WHM/BRD is even better; the loss of max MP is much less of an issue for a job that doesn't convert, and of course they have all the powerful spells and traits of a WHM regardless of what they sub. Ballad gives just as much MP as auto-refresh - but gives it to your party members too. And that's not even counting the benefits of march or madrigal. Unless your other MP users are too stupid or too selfish to use some of their extra MP to support heal, it seems almost guaranteed to be better than Conserve MP, even.
