  • /ma "Dispel" <disturbing rumors>

I was having trouble recently with lag during my Convert macro causing me to get the you are unable to cast spells at this time line when I was supposed to be casting regen after Cure IV. Since my RDM mentors were currently not online, I asked a random fellow RDM about possible causes (other than just lag...which turned out to be the problem after all) I asked why if Cure IV takes (I think) 2.5 seconds to cast, did I need a /wait 5 line in my macro before the regen line to make sure it would go off? Especially considering I have FC4 at my level. His response was that FC is like Conserve MP and fires randomly. I'm sure you all know this, but just in case someone has this misconception, this is NOT true. I sincerely hope this is not new information to anyone, but just the thought of RDMs running around thinking this causes me to lose sleep (not really). Just to make sure I did several tests which wasted about an hour of my time to confirm this. Just wanted to make sure no one else shares that particular RDMs theory.

As for those who may wonder about the wait line problem, it was caused by lag that was a result of my network settings (external to POL network settings). I now simply Cure IV and do any remaining cures or regens manually.

FC is random... /shakes head in disgust

Anyone who believes this should have their license revoked and be forced to wear a rusty subligar for the rest of their adventuring career.

    Thanks Yyg!

        Now that's punishment!! LOL

I've actually had WHMs race me with Cure IV. WHMs who have Merited Cure speeds thinking they could keep up with Fast Cast. It kicks in all the time! I've actually cast Escape (@ 55% the spells DONE), my party Escaped and I ran to the zone real quick.

I zoned into the next area, my party was outside in Jugner Forest and I was Monastic Cavern. Now that's Fast Cast!

Just look at the spell's recast time and you'll know about it.

If you've ever played THF with SA +TA + WS in a laggy zone, you'll know it's always the lag that causes the macro to mess up.

Fully merited speed WHMs can out-cast a RDM with the right gear. WHM75/RDM37 with full cure speed merits, a warlock's cloak, and a pair of cure clogs get some -50% to cure cast time. It's not quite -50%. Seems to be capped somewhere around -40%... but still faster than an RDM no matter what the RDM wears.

Even without /RDM subjob, my WHM job can out-cure a RDM on Cure IV with just Cure Clogs, since my cast speed merits + cure clogs yields the equivalent of Fast Cast VII.

With the AF2 body and the FC earring, what do our spells finish at? 40%? that'd be uber. I heard with just haste and AF2body+AF1 Hat, Utsu Ni is at 21 seconds. That's almost a 50% drop ._.

While it's true that FC reduces recast timer. It is only very very slight, meanwhile wearing haste gear reduces recast by a percentage (15% from haste spell). So yea go go speed belt : >

Anyways I realize this wasn't the problem for Johnny but a misfired convert macro, if you guys do any gear switching remember to put your /ma first and /equip second this way you can avoid the horrible /wait >.<

Personally though I've been playing RDM for some time now and I'm still extremly scared to convert with a macro. A few steps back and cursor on Cure IV/ Cure III does the trick.

BTW: I hope you explained to that rdm that FC is in effect all the time ^^

I noticed that also. It's a tiny inconvienience, but if you're rushing for exp or your life, it makes all the difference. Just like how the cursor will go off someone if you target them and they change gear, putting /equip before /ma in macros messes up the entire thing ._.

I have a separate macro to swap gear pre convert, and then again post convert...so my actual convert macro now only has the /ja convert line and 1 cure 4 line. After that I just cure 3 or regen as necessary.

As for the 75rdm that told me this terrible little piece of misinformation, I did attempt to inform him on how FC actually works, but there was no response. Not really too surprised...

Damn right. Sometimes I cast Haste on myself before my first Refresh. Let me tell you a secret: I use the clock to time my Refresh. Many ppl say it's unnecessary and anal, but fuck that, in a hectic situation, I just have to look at the clock to remember who to refresh next and how much time until my next cast. When there is a lot going on, it helps to be able to just throw out a refresh, not miss anyone in the lineup, and spam Paralyna, since Byakko is a bitch on 4 legs. . .

(I start casting Refresh on myself at *:58, it lands on *:00. Next person can get Refresh at *:06 and end by *:08,; next person at *:14 ending at *:16; *:22 casting at *:24; and *:30 ending at :36)

These are rough approxamites, cause I believe I actually cast the third refresh at :12, but anyway, even with 5 ppl to refresh, I have at least 20-30 game seconds to rest, leaving me with anywhere from 2-4 ticks. With my hMP, I can easily get around 55 or so MP/tick. Keep in mind that we also enfeeble in between Refresh Casting, meaning that at the end of our cycle, all we need to do is /h.

Anyway, it's just a tihng I do, try it if you want, I don't blame those that simply cast Refresh when it falls, but in those pressure situations, a few ticks of MP lost is the difference between being able to do a cure3 and a dead tank ._.

Point is, Haste affects recast, and now that you know how I cast Refresh, I'm going to try casting Refresh with Haste active to see how many seconds are shaved off, and if the extra 40MP warrants usage (because even if I finish Refresh faster, unless I can get extra resting in due to the less time it took, it'll be useless)

                            But ty for the suggestion!
