Re: Advice from rdms who beat maat

well that's a decent analogy, but you have to be 1 level past the cap of the last Genkai to do the next cap breaking. FYI, Maat Masher again. He stood no chance against my Blizzard3s. I'm gonna try meleeing him next time. This Joyeuse easily stands up to his H2h.

You've been talking about going back and doing it. I thought it was always a cap'd fight. I didn't realize you could go back later and be lv.75 with all the bells & whistles and throttle him. I would like to go in and melee him to death at some point.

Is there a way to use an Icarus wing and create Light on his punk ass? That'd be nice!

LOL damn skrate. I'm sure you need to have exceptional timing tho. Savage blade would be fun to have, but i easily break 400 on Fast Blades, because i double attack on the strikes.

LS has said they're gonna go on Joytoy runs to get about 8 people one. Just hasn't started. I can't wait to put it ot use. I use my Hornetneedle for farming, if I had a Joytoy, I'd use that instead! Would also help big time for skill up parties. ^^ I'm jealous you have one and can use it already. lol

            I think it helps with ACC, or maybe I'm blindsighted by the constant DA. I get TP SOOOO Fast now it's rediculous. I'm having my NIN friend tank for me the pots in the sky while I skill up. My skill is at 225 now when last week b4 I had the sword it was a pitiful 213 ;.;

Hahah, you're calling 213 pitiful? I only recently renewed my sword skilling, which only just now reached 177 o_O

I have some serious catcing up to do.

I was thinking of bringing a High Mana Cloak to my Maat fight, could it work? Would that 30 second timer on the MP restore do more harm than good?

Re: Advice from rdms who beat maat

Yeah, I noticed that no matter my damage, I only received 11 TP. (5 from Joyeuse, 1 from second Fast Blade hit, 5 from off-hand weap)

                    Edit:

even 5 seconds is life or death. The answer should be obvious.

I was thinking the same thing, which is why I thought perhaps that bringing a mana cloak along might quicken MP recovering while I have Maat slept.

My sword's at 209 :\ I'm having a hard time figuring out where to skill it (as well as hornetneedle), since I'm looking forwards to some Savage Bladery (Mmm and some evisceration).

Re: Advice from rdms who beat maat

Apparently I'm lucky, or so I keep being told. I beat Maat first try without breaking a sweat (from effort, I might have from being a bit nervous...). Regardless, I certainly wouldn't have won if I hadn't gotten so much advice from all those that pose on this forum, so thank you all. To those who are preparing for this battle, fight Ruby. The fight is different from Maat in some regards, but it is still good practice. (You may need to bring a rng along to help you pull since Ruby is often camped by GS..thank you Nddare) Also, get the Enffebling Torque, or at least Spider Torque (if you're a rdm at this lvl you should have one of these regardless since enfeebling is our most important skill...expensive yes, but being the best at your job includes BOTH skill and gear) and borrow if need be/possible the HQ dark staff, Pluto's Staff...it will make a difference. Use int food, not mp food. Bring more meds than you think you will need. I used Vile Elixir +1, Vile Elixir and Pro-Ether and never ended up Converting. If you have the corresponding elemtnal staff, Bind and Gravity should stick most of the time (I had each resisted once). Definately do the run in and sleep, just target him on your way in and stop right at the end of the hallway and cast. Do this on any day but Lightsday. He came at me once during my fight and I had plenty of time to sleep befor ehe got to me. 7 nukes and he was done. I do believe that some of this fight is luck, but I think if you follow my advice and the advice of others posted here, you can sufficiently stack the odds in your favor to win. Good luck to all of you who are getting ready to challenge the old fart. Congratulations to all who have already beat him. If anyone wants to know my gear or macro setup, just send me a PM and I will let you know, or post it if I get enough requests.

Optimally some stuff that can give you a great edge:

                            Pluto Staff & Austers Staff
                            Ele torque, Enf Torque
Master Caster Bracelets if it work in the region(This is the love, and overlooked A LOT)
                            Druid slops
                            Moldy earring

Go in on a dark day for best sleep result wind day for best dmg increase

Just a quicknot on the Master Caster's Bracelets, I could be wrong but I believe these are a Rank 8 Windy item and something like 60k CP. Just something to keep in mind for those who want to try and get them. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Steelshells are great for sword skill up in 200s, however I would recommend doing this in a party. At 69 it only took 2 direct hits to drop stoneskin. Also, these are a good mob to max your elemental magic skill on if you are trying to cap it for the Maat fight.

Finally, while I have yet to confirm this (although I plan on fighting Maat a couple more times at 69-70 to research this and the level of the luck factor in the battle) while going on Darksday may help, it is not a guarantee that your sleeps will land, as I have had friends who went in on Darksday and had every sleep resisted. But as said by most, it probably can't hurt, anything to stack the odds in your favor a little more is a bonus.

I did a lot yesterday lol:
joyeuse O (I this sword, but man it was a pain to get)
dynamis - bastok O (my first dynamis run!)
skillup sword from 230-241 and start savage blade quest (boyahda steelshells ftw)
                                BCNM fight to unlock NPC

Robber crabs are pretty good for weapon skillup from like 180-215 or so. Drain/Aspir and the standard buffs ftw. Nice to have a panic macro for escape if you're kinda weak compared to them. Don't neglect aquaveil. Oh and you might want to use agi+ where you can if you can get away with it... it'll help speed up your parry/shield skillups.

About offhandng the joy-toy: Keep in mind that the delay is longer when you /nin so you're diminishing the sword's effectiveness. With 25-37 nin sub, the delay of DW is .9 x the delay of both weapons added together and the standard attack delay. To help even the score, if acc is not a problem, use Sarashi, and if you've done Divine Might, Suppanomimi. Each adds another .05 to the DW speed reduction (is like a 5% haste for melee attack speed only). Suppanomimi also give +5 sword skill. Considering RDM already fight while hasted when solo and have the fastest casting of any job, the enhances Dualweild items are really quite useful.
