Thank you nanatsu. I completely agree with your statements.

I put RDM/nin in the same invite group as BLM/smn and SMN/blm...

      Re: What race...

      Just keep this key points

there is a time for productivity, and fun.

As much as I hate to say it, when you are fighting something in a hnm ls, productivity is more important(this includes skill and gear). if you are productive, there is no complaints from others, your mob is dead, and you dont get complaints. no complaints or meber inbetween fighting = brings more fun.

dying is always not so bad, it can be fun, but winning and fun is productive.

sorry i wanted to type more indepth but my shift is over.

anywas ENJOY THE GAME, but once your in a "end game" ls remmeber productivity helps.

and yes there is many end game events you can have fun.

for exmaple gration when i go as rdm i will sub ninja, which works well other rdms are opting this from me as they have seen its efficacity

        Re: What race...

Weeee, there is a difference in what you do in XP/merit and event/HNM. You can't say RDM/nin is more productive/efficient in XP/merit than RDM/blm.

(disclaimer: I am assuming XP and merit are similar as I have never gotten high enough to partake in merits yet.)

        Thanks Yyg!

Well I personally dont think Id invite RDM/NIN to my exp partys. But it sure is a fun thing to try out.. if you can do the 4 things that Nanatsu mentioned at the same time. ^^ And about ls productivity.. a RDM/nin can sub any SJ the ls wants him to for quests .

          Ow and Blm/smn is good.

Solo /nin taru hits 1200+hp easily
Taru RDM/NIN with 1200+ HP? How? Not criticizing you in the least, though...I'm honestly very curious. The only Tarus I've ever seen with that much HP are Taru MNKs. Even the Taru PLDs I know only have a little over 1000.

I would be proud of them selves for reaching 75 rdm as galka, its problably the rarest race/job combo i've seen on my server.
I'm about to embark on that journey myself. RDM is currently at 40 and I'm actually going to keep track of the time it takes me to bring it up to 75.

I know a few level 75 Galka RDM. With the notable exception of defeating Maat, they've all told me that getting RDM to 75 wasn't hard at all.

Under 900 HP for a 75 RDM/NIN Tarutaru, nekkid. You really need some miracle grow- I mean gear, to obtain over 1,200 HP >.>

Level 75 Tarutaru MNK/WAR can break 1,300 HP though ...

                  Re: What race...

As a Mithra, I doubt I could hit that much HP, even with a melee sub, without something like Bomb Queen Ring or Sattva. (Or Intruder or Cassie... which say a lot about your priorities.) Although a full set of Crimson, if you have it, is something like +150 HP, I think, so this might actually be doable even for a taru, if they were a *very* well equipped taru. (As in, multiple KB/Nidhogg/Aspid drops plus Kirin, etc.)

But who cares? Max HP isn't that important unless you're soloing Cactuars (and even then, you can sub smn or bst and let a disposable pet take 500). RDM soloing is mostly about stoneskin (and with /nin, utsusemi) to avoid taking significant damage in the first place.

Race just isn't that significant. Skill, subjob, gear, even merits have a bigger impact than race.

I have to agree with some of the other Posts..RDM/NIN isnt really a good Party setup...I use my Rdm/NIN to farm and Help others with Missions, COP, Zilart and WSNM..For Parties I feel and this is just my Opinion RDM/ with WHM, Or BLM Sub is the best..But it really boils down to how you wanna Play...This is just a game and its fun to Spice it up a bit...

                      Re: What race...

                      Answer: Taru.

I really wish I went Taru. I had taru envy really bad for awhile, but it's gotten better. Tarus are the best mages, and yes, even though we can equip a sword, we're still mages. Plus they look extra ataruadorable with the pimp hat on.

Even as a rdm/nin for solo- rdm soloing is all about keeping your defenses up and slowly killing the mob. Tarus are able to do this longer than any other race. If you run out of mp and can't keep your defenses up, an extra 400 hp is going to buy you a couple of seconds at most.

errr you dont run out of mp as any race if you are rdm/nin ...

Depends on what and how you're fighting

There are quite a few fights where you go as /Nin even though you never draw your swords/daggers.

I went with Mithra, simply because I liked how they looked in their AF armor. But I don't think it really matters. I mean, you can make up for any race's shortcomings with the right gear and subjob.

I think it ultimately comes down what you will have the most fun playing.

                              Re: What race...

One thing that should be noted is that Taru RDMs now have a distinct advantage in the level 65+ range. The new ToAU XP areas (Bhaflau Thickets, Caedarva Mire) are huge running battlezones, and you rarely have time to sit and rest. The difference between running parties and "normal" non-moving parties in these zones is extreme:

I went with a "standard" PLD RDM SMN BLM SAM DRG party to Bhaflau Thickets last night, level 69-70. Was OK - chain 5 or 6, approximately 5K per hour.

I then took a "non-standard" running party to Caedarva Mire today: NIN DRG MNK BLM RDM BRD. Blew me away. Level 70-72 . Best effort at Chain #27. Approximately 14K per hour.

The problem if you're not Taru? No resting time. At all. None. Zero. If you stop and rest, your party is half a screen away before you get your first tick of MP and you're effectively out of that fight.

I had 1026HP and 1016MP as a level 71 RDM/WHM, and even so there were times when I would run out of MP about 1-2 minutes early and really had to conserve to make it to Convert. I can't imagine trying to do this setup with any other race.

                                Re: What race...

I'm using marrion glaces in xp parties lately, and the extra mp really frees me up. I can't imagine how nice it would be to have over 1k mp at 71 (I had about 750 as rdm/whm with the glace).

The only reason I didn't go taru at the beginning was because their noses look really pronounced and ugly in the Brady guide and in the character creation screen. Once you're actually in the game though they are so small you don't even see the noses really.

The character creation demo is screwed up because none of the models actually look like they do in the game.

Yes, you can "make up" for the mp difference (although not totally, until you get zenith gear and that doesn't exactly grow on trees) with gear, but taru rdms can use those gear slots for other things. And every race except taru is going to be spending merits on mp. That's a bunch of free merits tarus can use elsewhere. No matter how you cut it, they're superior.

Does that mean you shouldn't play another race? No, but you asked which was the best and taru is the answer. Play whatever you feel like, but don't kid yourself while doing it. I freely admit tarus are better. It doesn't take away from my fun in the game.

Humes are really kind of a crappy race. This was my first MMO, and I'm going to chose more stat-focused races like tarus after this one.
