    Re: What race...

Actually the elemental debuff effect from elemental ninjutsu is resistable, but at that level it probably still has a reasonable chance to take effect. 4 seconds is a lot of time to give up, but hey, it's 0MP, so give it a shot and knock yourself out. It's honestly neither hurting nor helping your performance much in either case; I'd just stop trying to overanalyze it and just take it as it comes. You're not going to be in that level range long enough for it to matter.

      Re: What race...

I played in that style with RDM/NIN and it worked perfectly well. However, as I got into the early 40s, resists became far more common for my subbed Ninjutsu skill, and it was not worth it in comparison to a mage sub. In fact, it was completely useless in a party situation.

Not a bad subjob choice for those earlier levels, but it's not worth it later on. I wrote up a few posts long ago in one of the stickied threads about it.

Armando has a thread on the subject of elemental Ninjutsu resistance:

What you probably didn't know is that they give -30 resistance for 15 seconds, and more importantly, the effect is guaranteed.
        (The emphasis is mine.)

I've never tried his idea in exp parties, but I have been hit by too-weak Yagudo ninja with Ichi Ninjutsu (a few of the 6 elemental ones), and don't recall ever completely resisted one. (Never bothered to check my elemental resistance, though.)

Patchinko, which Ninjutsu were you getting fully resisted on? It wouldn't say landed for 0 damage, but should give a message on full resist, like missing a paralyze (I presume).

I'll have to play around in Castle Oztroja some more and test this sometime; I remember doing so a while back and not noticing any elemental resist down, but that was well over a year ago, and I might be mistaken. Should be an easy test either way. I've never fully resisted (i.e. gotten the Resist! or No effect message), but I also don't remember seeing any change in my resistances after looking either, but there's always been a damage number (same way Bio and Dia and nukes never get resisted, except by enemies with Magic Immunity effects active such as Magic Jars, Shadow Lord, or Promathia).

i have RDM NIN RNG BLM at 75, BRD72 and WAR at 65. i have alot of AF2 for NIN and RNG, beaten DL a few times. but hey, what do i know ?

The ice mage and the flame alchemist have abandoned that debate. Let's follow their lead. I don't think anyone's going to sum it up any better than IfritnoItazura already has. Moving on ...

In enfeeble terms, I'd have to make 5 or more Paralyze land per chain on RDM/NIN over RDM/BLM to make that worthwhile MP wise... That doesn't seem likely, though opportunity cost of not landing paralyze on first one or two tries may make smaller improvement worthwhile. Ninjutsu can help with debuff, though, at opportunity cost of 4 seconds per cast. Now I think about it, Doton and its peers probably can't be resisted entirely, so it's like adding 4 seconds to Gravity to ensure better accuracy.

              RDM is sure complicated...
You can just stay on the front line while you're casting your debuffs and cures. Your swords will wait. That's what I did up until the 30s.

I think your elemental ninjutsu idea is a good way of thinking of it. You add 4 seconds and some gil onto the cost of the spell for a lower chance of resist. If I recall correctly, like Dia, elemental nin spells will come through for their status effect of -15 resist whether the damage is resisted or not. Again iirc, according to Armando's research, -15 resist is equivalent to reducing the mob's resistance to one five levels lower. So in theory, you should be able to land the next spell as though your target was an EM or T rather than an IT.

To your last comment, yes. Yes it is. ^^

                Re: What race...

People are getting way too emotional about this, on both sides. I guess race is dear to some people, which is in a way understandable because you're stuck with it the whole game.

To the OP: I actually went rdm/nin for like 4 lvls. I think it was 37-40, or whatever lvl you can xp off the gobos right outside Ifrit's (might be 47-50), because I remember being a rdm/nin then, and that's when I decided to stop (I think I remember trying backline casting for the first time really and noticing it was alot easier and better, so that's when I stopped meleeing too. Everyone wasn't as insanely against rdm melee at that point).

Fairly quickly into trying it, I learned that the elemental ninjitsu does little or nothing to help. You may be able to land it, but the difference in resistance on nukes is going to be very minimal. I in fact noticed no difference.

So, before 37 nin, what does nin bring you? Duel wield and a couple shadows. Duel wielding wands helps and the shadows you will very rarely use. In the end, though, you'll get more int or mnd from a mage sub then from duel wielding wands, not to mention the mp and spells.

If you just want to do it for kicks and know that it won't be as effective, just keep it to the lower lvls.
