If we don't like something, collectively, if our hatred for it throbs like an abscess beneath every thread, does that mean that they're doing something right?

As hard as it may be, don't take this game or your characters too seriously. I promise you - the guys that really own your account don't.
Any race will be fine, although you might want to think over the subjob choice. ^^ NIN is great if you're solo, but a general no-no in parties since it doen't benefit anyone but yourself. WHM or BLM are considered far better subjobs depending on the party setup. As Elvaan, with food at 75 I have a perfect convert ratio of 1017/1017. I'd like to know what a galka can do. Races with a bigger natural MP pool will allow you to have a nice ratio with less work, though.

Wow..
that's pretty harsh. One of the good things about this game is you can mix and match jobs...
Who cares if it is popular or not?
I, at least, don't play for a popularity contest.
As as for racial choice? Shoot try something different; it'd be fun.
Like the taru fighters that run around....
it's not a matter of popularity, and it's not a matter of pt invites either.
/nin gives no -that's no- useful tools to a rdm. you might as well have no sub job at all.
/whm and /blm give you more spells and more mp. /summoner gives you more mp and auto-refresh. with /blm you can use chainspell-escape to save your pt, not to mention conserve mp. with /whm, you can reduce downtime by helping cure better, and improve the effectiveness of your pt with status cures.
/nin gives you blinks, but you already have stoneskin, and you never get hit anyway, and by the time you get dw2, you shouldn't be meleeing anymore anyway (in my opinion). dw1 would be mostly just for show on a mage, unless you dual-wielded wands, which i have a feeling you aren't planning to do
rdm/nin for soloing only. if you want to /nin, choose a melee main. a mage should sub a mage job for xp pt's.
edit: and back on topic, how often does this need to be said? any race can play any job. pick the one you think looks cool.

d00dz 1t g1v3z t3h ub3r l33t elemental ninjutsu that's completely worthless since it'll get resisted anyway. whoo!
but any rdm who subs /nin isn't planning to be an enfeebler or a refresher. you're planning to be a melee.
if you want to be a melee, choose a melee job. don't choose rdm. rdm *gets* to melee for the first few levels, but after that you're expected to be a mage from then on.

Fun fact first off
A Taru Paladin has 525 MP no gear @ 75
A Elvaan rdm has about 430~ with no mp + gear/blm @ 75 @_@
But anyways, every race has it pro's or con.
Me being a taru, I may have a big mp pool, but My Para/slow proc rate wont be as great as a elvaan, or for the matter other race, yet my nuke, grav will proc better.
so ya I only have no comment for galka rdm, except if they beat maat with rdm I give the loud applouds, and I would be proud of them selves for reaching 75 rdm as galka, its problably the rarest race/job combo i've seen on my server.
Solo /nin taru hits 1200+hp easily with a 700+ mp pool >

the point isn't how much mp a rdm/nin has. the point is anyone who wants to be a rdm/nin in a xp pt won't want to be a spellcaster. he is obviuosly wanting to be a melee with spells he usually won't cast.
the truth is, however, i don't care what you sub or what you cast, as long as you keep casting refresh and dispel >.>.

I doubt Rdm/nin would be really bad.. spamming refresh with macros.. for the rest En-spells and stuff.. That would be the first dual-weild melee with swords. :3

Doesn't matter what you want to do with swords or utsusemi. Don't care what numbers you put up with ws. Don't care what damage you can do with enspells. Don't care what food you eat. You must refresh. You must enfeeble. You must backup heal when needed. And you need to be able to help handle links or do something useful when shit hits the fan. And you must do those four things effectively without downtime. Otherwise there's no point in inviting you to a party and you can just go solo crabs instead.
