    Re: Hey Red Mages!

    Such is the way of the rdm. ; ; I've said it before and I'll say it again, rdm's are very "underappreciated". When a blm hits a mb or the dd's renkei etc. you hear people saying {Good Job!} but how often does a GOOD rdm hear that? {/sigh}
I dont know about you but i do appreciate the RDM that can Refresh, enfeeble, and have the brains to Magic burst(like knowing when renkei is going to start and times it right with enfeebling). Alot of RDMs are either one or two listed skipping usually either Enfeeble or Magic Bursting(although i admit there are some that dont even do any of the three in which i Warp home after =/). I dont know if RDMs are underappreciated since i tend to say Thank You after every Refresh, but if anything, good and bad RDMs are very easily distingushable.

Staying on topic, i do not like RDMs that do not refresh the PLD/put them last on the list. They should be one of the first for a good reason. And at the same time i hate WHMs that dont Haste and make the RDM do it(unless theres a good reason).

Eh... I'd say fairly often I miss MB due to being busy midcast of something else when they start SC. Most the times I do land it, but I have to say its quite easy for a RDM to miss a MB, trying to keep track of other duties.

Eh i dunno how i missed this, i was thinking about it but i didnt type it in the end O_o I have absolutely no trouble if you are in midcast, even though i have seen some extrodinary RDMs that have hit MBs and continued on with the Enfeebling after(i dunno, probably paying attention to the TP and stuff). But yeah midcasts are generally fine with me for obvious reasons. RDMs arent god that can do everything perfect 100% of the time.

        ....or can they? O_O

Though yeah when I'm really paying attention (or generally with thfs wanting to SC at start) Its easy to time MB in with enfeebles/refresh/haste.

            Re: Hey Red Mages!

I'd say I hit around 50% of my MBs. As far as spell priority goes, MBs fall waaaay down on the bottom of the list, behind Dispel, Refresh and Ballad (for me, since I usually sub BRD). Also if people are getting hit other than the tank due to hate problems, I'll usually skip MB to focus on keeping them alive.

As for rdm's, granted I play rng so TP gain isnt a problem, but I always consider haste a bonus, and am greatly impressed when they see my haste wore off and quickly recast it (by quickly I mean they recast it at all). Especially considering I rarely notice when it has worn. Good rdm's are few and far b/w, I wish I had a routine opportunity to party with them.

                Re: Hey Red Mages!

The only time I miss a MB is if it was an accidental Skillchain, or I was in the middle of a Refresh cycle. But honestly, it doesn't take long to feel the party out to time everything up. Whether they save the Skillchain to wipe out the last half of the mob's HP, or if they start right away and use the rest of it's HP to build TP. You can also feel out how long it will take them to build TP.

And sometimes, even if you're almost through an Enfeebling cast, you can still get off the MB. I got a Water II off today that, honestly, surprised me that still made it in the MB window! lol

Exactly! I do the samething pretty much. Except my order goes like this:
RDM -> PLD -> BLM -> WHM -> Everyone else

Reason why I put BLM in third is because they are the next biggest consumer on MP. They run out fast. WHM and PLD do minimal work together to keep the PLD alive. If your PLD isn't healing as often as they should be, fire him/her.

Of course there are exceptions but I've PT with too many PLD who stay standing to save 13tp..... (I can see TP% via the windower)
I see this happen too much. PLDs who get into PTs with a RDM get all jittery and gleeful because they don't have to worry about a BRD's AoE and 2 buff 'only' problem. "OMG, you have to kill my Madrigal and Minuet buffs to get ballad on me?" But some take it too far and just practically abuse the RDM's Refresh. Yes one of RDM's main roles in PTs is to keep MP regen flowing. But RDMs don't join PT to refresh PLDs so they can DD, we refresh them so they can HEAL and keep hate. There are other jobs for DD.

For all you DD-wannabe PLDs, if you like refresh so much, why don't you play RDM as your main job and bask in it's wonderous effect?

let's don't bash other jobs here xD we just play our rdm well, that's enough concentration for us.

Pld asking for refresh I have no problem with (I always give it to him anyway, even when the pt is afk for a few)--it's when a drk burns mp just as fast requiring him in every refresh cycle that I get ticked.

Anyway. I nearly always miss MB, maybe 70% of the time I never do it, except to get that last few chains if I have spare mp--even then refresh/haste/cures takes priority. When I MB, it's normally just some first tier spell to skillup with. >.>

                            Re: Hey Red Mages!

Sorry, I didn't think this would whip all the red mages into a frenzy. It's funny that it did though. When I'm a Paladin, Lv48 now, I have to ask for a Refresh every single time I want it and I don't always get it. I have to rest in between fights and hope to get to at least 30 MP before the next monster is pulled in. Now I must be partying with Whms who are used to leveling with Ninjas, because they barely heal me. They barely cast Erase if I need it(and if they have it), and they always drop cure bombs on me while I'm low on HP and MP. Rdm don't make it any easier. They always seem to forget to enfeeble, or refresh any mage other than the Whm. It seems they're too busy skilling up their sword to pay attention to anything else. How much MP would it save everybody if you just cast Refresh on me? A lot. I'm almost self sufficient as long as I have it. I usually leave parties early when the Rdm doesn't keep me up to date with Refresh. How do you see me resting for MP, and not automatically think Refresh? When the Rdm is doing a poor job that puts a strain on me, and I have a hard time doing a good job. Nobody notices the poor Rdm though, they only see the Pld.

Everybody else gave me their input, and that's mine. Sorry if I stir fry any emotions again.

                              Re: Hey Red Mages!

When I was talking about always tossing out my MB's, I didn't preface that I don't have Haste yet. So I don't have that to worry about as well. Once I have Haste, things might just change. I think my Elemental Magic is cap'd for another level from my DRK51 days. So I don't have to skill it up just yet.

As far as a RDM skilling up sword. That's unacceptable. I don't even bring my sword with me any more. I bring my "Ping Pong Paddle of Death" +1 with me, and I always have it equiped. I can only think of one party I could have actually melee'd and I was Lv.38 with a kick ass NIN & THF combo. I can go on a skill up party as DRK and level it for when I need, but I don't farm as RDM so the need isn't really there. IF they're meleeing at that level, it's pretty much time for them to go. Unless they can do their job and no AoE's causing huge problems.

I've partied with one PLD since I learned Refresh, and she begs me to come party with her even time she puts her flag up! lol

sadly i've seen this story of impactions occuring more and more often. Most of the redmage population nowadays really has very little idea how to play their job. Most of these new rdms are like 0mgZ i want my pimp hat!!111!!one. These newbs refuse to cast refresh and dispel and quite frankly i feel as though they are giving us a bad name. I can recall so many times when parties were praising me up and down for keeping up refresh and haste and i would sit back and wonder "I'm only doing my normal job, heck I missed a few enfeebs there...god how bad are some of these other rdms?"
