  • RDM Maat Fight

Hey guys, I'm 67 (almost 68) and planning for my maat fight. I was curious if Gravity stuck on Maat. I've seen a lot of videos of the fight, and I'm going to try for a speed run, I suppose. Still, I've never seen anyone use gravity in the fight. It seems to me it would help immensely, so I'm guessing it's resisted often. Anyone with info would be appreciated.

While we're on the topic, I was wondering if I could get away with Silencing him, then doing Aero3 - Blink and rinsing and repeating.

          Re: RDM Maat Fight

Awesome.. The problem I see with most people (at least the videos) is that if they chainspell at the beginning, Maat gets close to them and they wimp out.. recover.. kind of cool off and get back at it.

I suggest debuffing and getting ready for some serious nuking at the beginning.. Chainspell, Aero IIIx2, you should be able to get 2 nukes safely off from your max distance. Sleep II immediately.. Now of course, if bind didn't wear, and if gravity sticks then you're golden and have a lot more time.

However, this plan kind of counts on the fact that maat will come after you, but deal with it. Sleep, run a bit away for some distance.. Nuke once more. Chainspell's still up, you don't have to worry about sleep's recast time. If you run out of MP, vile elixer+1 or convert (kind of your choice). 2+ nukes at a time, you could probably finish this in under a minute if it's done properly.

          Watcha guys think?

EDIT: Also, guys.. Do you think an auster's staff is worth it? I looked on my server today and saw that it's going for 2.1mil. That's just insane, and I don't think I could afford it unless I took months out to farm. I also heard from a BLM friend of mine to go for a Gramary Cape. He says the accuracy+1 has helped him with resists immensely, so I'm gonna try it out in XP parties while I level to 70. I know it won't make up for the +15% damage from an auster's staff, but a wind staff will help at least. /sigh.

            Re: RDM Maat Fight

Don't silence him because then he'll melee you. If you're doing Sleep >> Nuke >> repeat, just bind him right before you cast AeroIII and then sleep asap after. (Ice Staff almost mandatory for Bind)

During my Maat fight I Nuked him down to 40% or so with the use of one Vile Elixer and then I Chainspelled the rest of his HP before he broke Bind and got to me.

One side-note that I heard from a friend. Regardless of what TP he could have gained from you casting AeroIII or his melee attacks, after the 3 min mark he will almost always use Asuran Fists on you if his HP is below 50%.

                Re: RDM Maat Fight

Yeah, silence hurts you more in the short run than it helps. Maat's apparently subbing SAM, because on my first run he used Asuran Fists on me. Twice. In a row. You want to do everything you can to keep him at a distance- and he'll help you out by casting spells that you can easily dispel or blink.

Imho, this fight is easiest if you're an MP whore. Your intuition matched my strategy- hold off a little at the beginning, and save chainspell at the end. Don't get frusterated, though, because no amount of prepping can possibly save you if he wants you to lose. The fight is really quite unbalanced...

                    Re: RDM Maat Fight

I dispelled what I needed to before I chainspelled. As you can see my chainspelled lasted until Maat was defeated. You should do just fine.

                      Re: RDM Maat Fight

Run straight in sleep, use stoneskin and blink, Dispel if needed (shouldn't have to dispel much because you run right up to him. Crank Chainspell, let rip as many Aero III's as you can saving MP for sleep and Stoneskin. Sleep him, convert, get stoneskin and blink back up, maybe a Cure IV (I did but it wasn't needed as he never hurt me anyway). Then let rip with Aero III using up the rest of your MP and he should be dead. Ideally all done within Chainspell or else you will have to sleep him more often and it could get ugly with resists.

That's how I did it in my second run, the only thing you rely is your sleeps sticking.
I went in on Windsday and did a very fast time with that tactic, a Taru Taru could probably pull it off without converting if they had enough MP.

                        Re: RDM Maat Fight

                        Hello everyone!
I just recently beat Maat, Woooooooo!
I thought I'd post some details about my fight since I was anxious to learn what others did to take old Maat out. Yes it took me more tries then I could count to beat him, and it definitely appears to have an element of luck and randomness to it, but once you beat him, man does it feel good! Determination is one thing I had!

Ok I went in on Dark day, with Elemental, Dark, Enfeebling capped, and decided to go for a mix of mp and int.

Food/Med's: Melon pie, 2 Yag Drinks, 2 Super Ethers
Gear: AF Pimp/Pimptress hat (of course!), body, hands, legs. Hume RSE feet, Soider torque, Moldavite earring, Fencer's earring, ether ring, zircon ring, red cape +1, royal knights belt+1, Phatalcom(bad spelling).
Staves: Ice, Dark, Wind staff +1 (I think its called Auster's).

                        Fight:
                        Take pie before entering
                        BC: Sleep2/Dispel/Yag drink/Blink/Bind/Stoneskin/Dispel/Aero3
Repeat, buffing when needed 2 more times
After third sleep2(buffed pop super ether so mp is near full)Chainspell/bind/spam Aero3-4x/sleep2/Convert/cure4/buff/aero3
If needed do one more round of Sleep2/Super ether/aero3 and wave goodbye vause he's a goner.
Generally I found that everything depended on whether or not the sleeps stuck, in my case everything stuck this round, so it was very smooth.

Congrats to all the RDM's out there who have won, and good luck to those of you about to

                          Re: RDM Maat Fight

When I fought Maat, I never really bothered with Gravity. Like most NMs, it's not a very lasting effect. Neither is Bind, but Bind was resisted fewer times. So, if anything, I'd say Bind would be more useful over Gravity. If you can manage to Gravity him, that would work I guess. But it's worked only once on the round I fought Maat trying it.

Overall, you're going to need Sleep 1 and Sleep 2. With haste, you can probably just keep using Sleep 2. But he has a very good chance of resisting, so you'll need the other sleep spell. And if he resists both, well, that's where Bind comes in. Get it?
