  • My Maat fight

I beat Maat last nite. The link to the fight video is:

    http://rapidshare.de/files/3635743/Maat_fight.wmv.html

**click on "Free" button at bottom to start downloading, limited bandwidth, I apologize in advance

My strategy file in excel format has also been uploaded, the link is:

    http://rapidshare.de/files/3635012/F...tegy1.xls.html

Comparison of 2 fights with Maat

    Aspects Fight 1 Fight 2
    Day Darksday Darksday
    Moon phase Crescent Crescent
Marble Bridge Favoritism Lady San d’Oria citizen
Equipment upon talking to Maat Minimum int equip(+11 int) Minimum int equip(+11 int)
Food Crimson Jelly (+6 int) Crimson Jelly (+6 int)
Equipment upon entering BC Fully equipped with Mythic Wand (+44 int) Minimum int equip(+17 int)
    Enfeebling skill Capped Capped
    Elemental skill Capped Capped
Dark magic skill 188 190 (capped)
    Enhancing skill Capped Capped
First sleep Resisted Cancelled by blink
    2nd sleep Landed Landed
    3rd sleep Resisted Landed
    4th sleep Resisted Landed
    5th sleep Resisted N/A
    6th sleep Resisted N/A
    Match result Pwned Win

Factors listed may not have direct relevancy to the fight result. As discussed many times before by various Rdms, luck factor is significant. It is known that enfeebling skill is the primary factor governing the likelihood of whether an enfeebling spell is landed or not. The resistance to sleeps by Maat in both fights has demonstrated a marked difference despite the same enfeebling skill in both fights. My possible explanation is either:

    (a) Maat is spawned with different attributes, notably affecting its resistance to spells; or
    (b) Luck is the pure factor behind controlling the resistance to a spell for any given enfeebling skill, of course, the higher the skill, the less likely the spell would be resisted.

    Speculation:

    (c) The stat at the moment u enter the BC would govern the attributes of the spawned Maat; or
    (d) Darksday + Crescent moon do have a better tendency for Maat to sleep; or
    (e) Even Marble Bridge favoritism has an influence on ur luck factor during the fight.

If you look at my fight in the video, u will notice that it’s not exactly resemble any of my strategy. The fight is dynamic and Maat is a skillful rdm. Be ready to improvise and change the approach during the fight. There are moments of hesitation in my fight, it may as well be a result of some pre-set mind on strategy, but o well, we only need one win to go thru the hassles. Also something so memorable to you would certainly endure.

      Re: My Maat fight

      Thank you Sepukku ^^)

      Tarutaru has a basic int of 70 while elvaan has int = 50 at lvl 70 (i.e. without subjob), that makes the life of a elvaan rdm on this fight a nightmare. I m extremely lucky that his one inch punch only did me 31 hp (O.O);;

Despite enfeebling skill governs the landing of a enfeeble spell (like sleep), I somehow believe int lvl would affect the resistance to a spell. So even with +44 int in full glory equipment plus food, I am just +24 to a tarutaru =P .

Good luck on ur adventure as well Sepukku.

*I edit in the Marble Bridge Favoritism on first fight = "Lady" :D , of course my character is no lady =P , please note that its pure speculation, not intended to start another chain of rumours or arguments.

Pppph, I quit RDM. The job is fun solo but utterly rediculously retarded in XP.

My, you are one LUCKY RDM. Not a single Asuran fist from what I saw. I've foughten Maat 8 times with no win and he's used Asuran Fists on me at least 2 times each time. Only on my 8th attempt has the first initial sleep cast did not get resisted. /sulk

Sounds like me as far as sleep resists go, actually I never stuck it on him ..........
I had to beat Maat by going in guns blazing, Enter BC cast Stoneskin Blink. Run up to him Diaga(...Ithink.. we get this right :3 been a long time I remember doin somethi to make sure his blink was killed), and start chainspellin Aero 3, when I fell below 50%hp and MP drank a VE+1 and continued, cure 4ed myself a few times and continued Aero3ing him. When I beat him it was in about 1 minute 40 seconds, for the BC time.

                  Re: My Maat fight

Indeed Vinen's strategy is wat I originally intended to and thats the hesitation to convert or not ^^ . I think this is a viable strategy and would not depend on sleep(s) that much.

Vile Elixir and Vile Elixir +1 cost a fortune but if they save the frustration, I have no hesitation to pop them =P .

Indeed, I m lucky that first he did not use Asuran Fists onto me and secondly his one-inch punch did me only 31 hp. Anyhow, upon my research, ppl (rdms) said that if the fight dragged on after 7-8 mins, Maat will use Asuran Fists back to back, i.e. certain death. Maat use one-inch punch at 4 mins into fight this time and thats wat I read about in some previous cases as well.

During my 2 fights, Maat put up blink and shell IV, it appears that SE has done some improvement on Maat's preliminary casting as well.

I have seen video of lvl 67 rdm pwned Maat and the rdm used sleeping strategy!!! I would perceive it as extremely lucky, because enfeebling skill (or magical accuracy some are talking now) determines whether an enfeeble magic would land or not, plus the complicated relationship between int and other stats on magic resistance, it would be very lucky to sleep him 3-4 times in a roll at such an early lvl. Or simply the Maat spawned is around lvl 66-67 because of the gaming design that lvl 66+ can do the BC.

Well, I finally beat Maat and can join the 'Say No to Asuran Fists!" club. Went on my 9th time and beat him! Not even a combo WS or anything. Just plain melee attacks.

I'm horrified... is his LB1 this hard? Only exponentially lower? I'm 1k from level 50 :x

Congratulation to you, Altae, great job and I feel happy for a fellow rdm ^^)b

Dear Xhaztol, his LB1 is tough in another way - the drop rate for papyrus from Liches is very poor =( but still manageable with good party setup (such as thf with TH2 + TH1 from sub-thf). The game is designed with suitable difficulties in such a way that u will feel something achieved in the process. I wish you good luck on LB1 and fun in FFXI </bow>

                          Re: My Maat fight

Ive heard Maat resembles your level. I have no proof bt if it is true then a 67 RDM doing this would face a 67 Maat and a 70 RDM doing this would face a 70 Maat. Also if this is the case then fighting him at 69 would make it so he does not have Asuran Fists too :3

Could be wrong...hell maybe all hsi stats except HP and MP and WS's reflect your level. Can't really say, but it could wxplain why a 67 could kill him and a 70 could not.

I don't think Maat is the same level as you are when you fight him. He has Asuran Fists, no matter what level you fight him at. And you know Asuran Fists is well beyond level 70. And he won't have the same stats either. To me, it seems to all be a luck of chance in getting to fight him under the right conditions. Such as, being able to sleep him many times, having him not use Asuran Fists, etc, etc. You just have to fight him over and over until you engage in the perfect scenario to beat him.

I finally beat him with only 1 sleep cast resisted. He never used a single weapon skill on me, and I didn't use any stat adding foods. Just a Vile Elixer and Vile Elixer +1. Had all the necessary Elemental staffs too. So, I finally had a break at my 9th attempt! ^^ But each time I fought him, I slowly and slowly brought him closer to death on every single attempt. So if he were to use Asuran Fists on me, once or twice even, I'd still have beaten him. I eventually worked out a strategy that works for me by my 9th attempt.
